  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is it evil to not believe in a Christ?

I'll start with that.

it is not simply believing in Christ or not. It is sin that is evil. Sin has separated us, and continues to separate us from God.

Jesus as a sinless perfect person, is an atoning sacrifice for sin. He is our sacrificial lamb to a holy God. He rose from the dead to prove the power of God of giving life God's way. He offers us life after death. That is a wonderful offer. He cleans our conscience and gives us the Holy Spirit if we ask and diligently seek Truth and Goodness.

Rejecting God's offer of salvation of sins, then we will be held accountable for our ways, all our choices, and all our sins. Lying, stealing, dishonoring parents, etc, the punishment for sin is death. If people choose to keep their sins, they will get what sin gets.

Jesus is a great offer, He has hard teachings, but He is worth it. Death happens, it is best to seek life.

I see now. It is not evil not to believe in the Christ as our savior, but it is necissary in order to be accepted into heaven. The evil lies in the sins we commit.

What I don't understand, however, is how we are to know which religion is the correct one. I feel like I'm playing 'guess the religion game.' Is it door number 1, door number 2...
What if I get to heaven and they say, 'Wrong answer! The correct religion was the Hail-Bop comet guys. They GUESSED it right.'
Because that's what it all boils down to, doesn't it? Guessing?
What is to lead me to the correct religion?

Every night I pray.
I pray, 'If there is any one religion you would like me to follow, PLEASE give me a sign that I will notice.'
Every other time I have asked for guidance he has shown me the way. Even now. I almost always receive an undenyable sign as to his message.
But not with this question.

I have prayed for this every night of my life for the last seven years.

I hope that you guys hang in there with me, and do not give up on me. I have many questions, and no answers. I am very ignorant, and I seek direction in any form I can get it. Perhaps one of you will be the sign I was asking for.

Thank you, everyone.

Dear Sloth,

Hi. I was thinking as I read your letter that through these brothers and sisters posts that the Lord Jesus is being revealed to you.

Could that perhaps be a sign to you?

Blessings,
Tapero

He did this already! He left His word with all the directions that ever would be needed for us to follow! He explains Himself in detail, He even came to earth in the form of a human man, Jesus Christ to personally show people what they needed to know and how to follow Him. They killed Him for it!
Read the bible, read the gospel of John over and over until you see it very clearly, who He is, what He did, what He wants from you! You'll understand His message and His reason then if you ask Him to have mercy on your soul and to forgive you as a great sinner!
He will do that and more by giving you guidance and blessings forever as you live your life for Him!
May He specially bless you!

we appreciate your sharing, and I know many are praying for you.

it is best to not only pray, but put your words into action. if you really want to get away from sins, seek to do what is right. it isn't easy. Actually you need the power of God to do right by your conscience. Just keep at it though, and He will show you if you are really actively seeking truth, not only in word but in deed. honor your parents, do not lie, treat others how you want to be treated, be fair and just, take care of the poor and oppressed, be helpful to others, etc. your username sloth kind of makes it sound like you like to be lazy, if that is the case, please reconsider. It isn't good to be selfish either, even being indifferent can be bad, when there is work to be done, time is short, and there are people you can surely help and do what is right. Jesus has the power to help us do what is right and know what is right, not Muhammed, not buddha, they don't claim to take away sins, they give maybes. Jesus has power, and if you continue to study Him and put His teachings into action, you will know the power of God, not just words, but really a new life.

to really find answers, you have to do a little more than pray, you have to be a doer. put words into action. God can give you the power to do such things. we aren't put here on earth just to die, He has answers if we seek them, and life beyond death, with true assurance, not just what ifs, but we have to do our part in diligently seeking and do what is right (not only in word, but in deed, in our actions).
