No, thats a lie.

It's a fact.

The civil rights movement, once a controversial left-wing fringe, has grown deeply embedded into the fabric of our national story. This is a salutary development, but a problematic one for conservatives, who are the direct political descendants of (and, in the case of some of the older members of the movement, the exact same people as) the strident opponents of the civil rights movement. It has thus become necessary for conservatives to craft an alternative story, one that absolves their own ideology of any guilt. The right has dutifully set itself to its task, circulating its convoluted version of history, honing it to the point where it can be repeated by any defensive College Republican in his dorm room.
...
His story completely ignores the explicit revolt by conservative Southerners against the northern liberal civil rights wing, beginning with Strom Thurmond, who formed a third-party campaign in 1948 in protest against Harry Truman’s support for civil rights. ...He later, of course, switched to the Republican Party.
...
As his one data point, Williamson cites the victory of George Bush in Texas over a Democrat who opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act. He correctly cites Bush’s previous record of moderation on civil rights but neglects to mention that Bush also opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

The Conservative Fantasy History of Civil Rights

Conservatives should feel some embarrassment and shame that we are outraged at instances of racism now that it is easy to be. Conservatives…were often at best MIA on the issue of civil rights in the 1960s. Liberals were on the right side of history on the issue of race. And conservatives should probably admit that more often.

Why does it matter that the #walkaway movement was started by a white man?

Or primarily promoted by Russian hackerbots? Or initially presented here as an example of black people leaving the democrat party?

Maybe you can explain for us?

The FIRST black Supreme Court Justice (Thurgood Marshall) was appointed by Democrats.

The irony is that if liberals hadn't been so adamant that Thurgood Marshall's replacement had to be black, if they had been willing to allow an all-white Supreme Court again, however briefly, they might well have got a more middle of the road Supreme Court justice similar to David Souter.

Got a quote from a prominent liberal? Can't seem to find one. I think I know why.

Conservative republicans would have celebrated. Yea, we got that. It was nothing compared to the derangement they had, after Americans twice elected a black guy president, though.

Because it was a coincidence that the second black man on the Supreme court replaced the first?

(claims that liberals said there had to be another black Supreme Court justice)

I was thinking it was because you couldn't find one, either. Still am.

But in making his choice, Mr. Bush will have to balance pressure to cement even further the conservative grip on the Court with equal pressure to appoint a black justice at a time when the President is struggling with Congress over civil rights issues and is anxious to send a message of conciliation to blacks and other critics of his civil rights record.

Still can't find a prominent liberal who said so? Guess why. Bush was a moderate conservative, but even then, he never said such a thing.

Apparently, you've found someone who thinks a prominent conservative thought he should appoint a black justice. But no liberals. Guess why.

I dont believe that Trump or any politicians are the best people in the world, but i do believe that someone has to stand against these liberal socialists. These so called democrats want our guns, our freedom of speech and our money. The biggest problem is how they try to silence pro gun and pro life people, and anyone who stands in their way. That's not very democratic is it?

My right to keep and bear arms doesnt end with your feelings.
I was writing about fear, not my feelings, and how fearful people will never be free.
But yes, I often experience gun rights activists as being hostile and defensive, too.
There are many things people refrain from doing out of consideration for others. Smoking. Cursing. Thinking about others is courtesy.
If I asked you not to bring your gun to my child's birthday party, or my wedding, or another social event would you get all huffy about it, or would you do the courteous thing?

Today's republicans would have voted for civil rights the same way today as they did in the 60's, only with a bigger majority. So whats your point about the republican 80% majority for civil rights?
What is your basis for believing this ?

Conservatives today seem to be much more concerned about holding on to what they perceive to be theirs, ... rather than being concerned for others' rights.

Thomas was Bush's appointee. Filling Marshall's vacancy was the prerogative of Bush's conservative administration. Do you doubt that such a choice was made with conservative ideals in mind ?

From the cited statement, it seems that Bush made his decision about Marshall's replacement ... with consideration of the Congress (which is proper) ... and of the people over which his administration governed (which is also proper).

Marshall's retirement ... was a blow to Liberals. That ... is a fact, ... not bias or propaganda ...

healthcare could be an example.
The attitude among many (if not most) conservatives would seem to be; "I have mine, it sucks to be them. They can buy their own (on their minimum wage income that we oppose raising because it may lower our profit margins)."

They want to keep their own HC, nothing wrong with that.
