So, I'm trying to follow God once again and I have been (unsuccessfully) for a while. I'm trying to turn from my sin, I'm reading the Bible even though I'm not that into it, and I'm trying to pray to God. Regarding that last one I have hit a snag. I have a lot of problems. I'm 24, have aspergers syndrome, live with my parents, don't have a job (I can't get a full time job because my mother put me on disability when I was in high school), don't have a drivers license. I have no friends (not that I'd want one because I generally can't stand people) except my family which is why I'd never move out by myself even if given the opportunity, I have been separated from God for 14 years though I've tried vociferously to get back to him. I have a degree in Criminal Justice and I'm getting another degree in paralegal, so I'm not a complete failure. And all of this poses a problem because I want something basic in my life that as the years pass it looks like I'll never have. I want a wife and children, a car, a house, a job, children, and to live a moral life. I desire strongly to have a girlfriend right now, a companion to make life more livable and have since I was old enough to like girls. I have lived a past in high school where I was treated like garbage by everyone; and I live in a family where my borderline personality suffering mother sometimes abuses alcohol and my father who (also has aspergers) sometimes gets angry enough to lay hands upon her.

What I'm saying is that I have a lot of problems and I have brought all of them to God many times over the course of many years and he has not dealt with a single one of them. I have absolutely no power over my life. I cannot get a full time job myself, I cannot attract woman on my own, I cannot make my insane parents sane. I have been robbed of everything that makes a man a man, and whats more I have no real relationship with God. I pray and pray to God and he says and does absolutely nothing. I ask what he wants me to do to come back to him and he says nothing. So then I demand that he tells me what to do and does nothing. Then I yell and curse and rail against him and he still does nothing. I ask for a girlfriend and future wife and he gives me nothing. I ask he give me guidance on what to do in my life and he says nothing. My God has never competently lifted a finger for my benefit. What times he has intervened in my life has either left me confused or did not solve the problem. I'm trying to follow God again as I've tried many times but my prayer to him today was basically "what is there to talk about? I have many problems that I keep bringing to you and you don't even show any outward signs that you are listening. So if you don't care about my problems, if you will not tell me how to return to you, if you will not help me in following you, there is nothing to talk about." There is literally nothing to talk about with an absentee God.

    Hi Aspie3000

Congratulations for being able to achieve those degrees. If you can do that you are able to do a lot more than you realise.

Is there anywhere you can go to get some help? I dont understand why you say because your parents applied for disability that is why you can't find work. You are unhappy to the extent that you get angry about it but only you can change your situation.

I will pray that you can ask the Lord to help you know where to start. Life will just pass you by unless you seize at it.

Its tough being 24. Its an extremely difficult phase you are in.

I'm on disability and it stipulates that I can only get part time work to stay on it. The money I get is supplementary income under the assumption that I'll never be able to work above minimum wage.

I stopped expecting to be like everyone else. High expectations lead to disappointment. I don't have Aspergers though.

Perhaps the government or medical profession will one day come up with a solution that is meaningful to Aspies. Seriously, I think someone should work on that.

Can you see the conflict of interests? You will have to give up on one or the other.

A girlfriend (that later becomes a wife) is the deepest friendship that a man can have.

You will have to give up the first before there is any prospects for the second...

I wasn't good at NT-style dating either. I just got involved in church/public activities that fit me, without striving to find a wife. In that time, God trained me how to be a husband and He eventually brought a wife to me.

As more people (male or female) get to know you (in your best behavior), they might recommend you to someone that they know, who could be a good match. It is a type of networking, but you just have to show up.

Matt 6:33 seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Remember that one day we will surely return to God, people die everyday, old and young, we should be grateful whatever is our condition now. Life is just a test, be meek that we shall not be put to shame when one day God calls our souls to face Him.

Can you imagine how Jesus lived in humility, he had no house nor much money :
Luke 9:58 "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

to be a christian is not a matter of bodily survival. But to choose to live in God means to obey God and defend the truth of God.

The early church was fed to lions, they were free to deny their faith and save their lives, but they choosed to defend the truth and obey God.

God told us the story of the poor Lazarus waiting to receive mercy from the Rich man's table, Lazarus accepts his fate and God could use his life for His purpose to find out the heart of the people. So this is the total obedience to God.

Even God has His purpose on Lazarus's life and Lazarus served Him by obedience to God without complaining and murmuring and rebelling like the Hebrew did in the dessert. This is what God wants from all of us and that He will test each of us whether we are worthy or not to receive Eternal Life with Him.

Jesus could run away from Gethsemane garden as he knew the people would ambush and arrest Him but He didnt, He choosed to face them all and defend the TRUTH.

Dont judge God and curse Him when you dont have bread or water like the Hebrew did in the dessert
Even so you'd be better live in obedience to God until you die faithfully like Lazarus did.

James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Get off disability, get a full time job. Take total responsibility for yourself and you will be amazed at the doors God will open up for you. If you don’t you will be stuck living like your living for the rest of your life. It’s is your choice.

How is any of that God's fault?

How is God not even speaking to me or acknowledging my prayers Gods fault? Maybe because he's all powerful, all knowing, and omnipresent and could easily speak to me and at least guide me on what to do in my situation. There is no valid reason why he shouldn't speak to me. This bull crap about, "oh its because your sinning and he doesn't speak to sinners" doesn't hold water either. I'm trying to help and get guidance and power to turn from my sins. Abandoning a sinner to his sin because hes a sinner while hes asking for your help because you're angry at him is the stupidest possible way to fix the problem. I try everyday not to sin and it doesn't work, so I ask for help and guidance in all of my problems and he just sits there on his throne doing nothing and basically has done that for 14 long years.

I can't do that right now. My parents insist that I stay on it for now because that's where I get my health care and many other benefits from. They tell me that this is all part of the plan and that I should just focus on getting many degrees right now so I'll have a fighting chance in the future. I'm also going to college so its kind of hard to get a full time job anyways. The only option I have right now is to learn to drive and maybe try to make friends at church and try to find a girlfriend. Only I'm terrible at making friends (I can't keep a conversation going); I don't know if any girl would have me in my current situation, and I've been told by God (he once did speak to me; I wish he would speak far more times and far more usefully) not to seek a relationship until he gives me one (that doesn't make my deep desire for one go away.)

If you continue on the path your on, you will continue to be living off other people for the rest of your life. You will be dependent on them and your life will be struck in a rut and going no where.

This line of advice is unwarranted. Nobody gets on disability on a whim. A very strong case has to be made first.

It is possible to have an extensive education and still not be hire-able. (I know this from experience. And I have a patent.)

There are programs in the disability system that will make the transition into work, if it is possible for them to do so. But telling someone to do this cold-turkey, by some imposed sense of guilt, is ill-advised.

I hope you’re right. But I fear your wrong. Unfortunately, a young mans life is at stake. May God direct him in the path he should take.

He gave you a brain. Maybe he expects you to use it. Maybe he expects you to work for your money and female companionship.

Really? You're entitled to a revelation now? God doesn't have the right to speak to whom he wants how he wants and when he wants?

Many people want God on their terms. But God can only be had on His terms. What are His terms?

He wants righteousness out of His people. Do righteousness in all you do, say, and speak, and you will be amazed at how much God speaks to you.
