• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am a person who is allergic to these items. Some churches use Turpentine on wood in enclosed areas. Are they considering the effects on other peoples' health?

This is awful. I don't have allergies but I know many people who do. I feel very sorry about your suffering. It's not good those kids of plants are used as decorations. They need to think about people with allergies. It's very bad.

I think most people won't realise it could be a problem. Let the people who look after the flowers know that some affect your health, and hopefully they'll be willing to change what they use.

Some people think, we will go on like this until someone complains. There is of course traditional flowers but allergic people usually tolerate yellow tulips better if they are not too old, if You want a cheap dyi alternative. Orchids are usually always fine, and grow in a pot and last up to 5 months and comes in a variety of colors. Poinsettas could be exchanged. There are a world of christmas decorations, red roses nowadays sometimes are scentless and used in christmasdecorations as well and are suggested for allergic people. Moss, could be ok if it is a small piece and although it contain some sphores and dust it usually gives little concern but plants that produce massive sphores should be avoided. Avoid anythind that smells good, thuja, hyacith etc. The less pollen the better, double flowers usually produse less pollen than single floralleaves. Go for the color and visual instead and talk to Your florist, He or she should have learned all about allergies and know where to find the best products for his or her store to put together a beautiful floral display that cause no allergy but still is suitable to the season, be it christmas, easter or other time of year. That is essentially a part of their work. Church workers should take that serious too, like please let not flowers keep people away, exchange the flowers do not take the flowers completedly away. Talk with Your florist, it usually cost You absolutedly nothing to talk. Florists serve with binding flowers for the newborn, weddings and funerals as well and usually knows what suits Your church. Some of the safest for allergic people are as follow in latin because that is floral language You can look them up on the internet. Most are cut flowers some are pot.
Amarantus caudatus pink, green foxtail, Anigozantus flavidus orange -yellow, red-green kangaroopaw, Anthirrinum majus, Astilbe, Campanula all kinds of blue bells, Eustoma grandiflorum,
Gentiana, Orchids without scenth for instance paphiopedilum, phaleonopsis, cymbidium, dendrobium, basicly most orchids You can buy. Rosa, modern roses without scent, Scabiosa, Sedum spectabile, Strelizia reginae, Veronica. This list is from Astma and Allergy organisation in Sweden but with theese flowers You and Your florist can come quite far. You might need some green leaves too and for that take scentless leaves without sphores, no thuija occidentalis, rather use grasses and big leaves, twigs and such.
