Why does God need a trumpet? Or a book for that matter?

Of course He is not limited by such constraints at all, but...He chooses to use things we understand, and we are made in His image.

God does not "need" anything including a trumpet but the scripture says "the sound of the trumpet." God can make the sound of a trumpet without one. The sound of the trumpet is to get the attention of the people.
