Why do we keep sinning?

Why do we continue to sin knowing that Christ died a horiffic death on the cross to pay for our sins? I understand that sanctification is a process, but is it really possible to stop sinning while still in this earthly body?

I know that guilt is an emotion that lets us know that we've failed God. Does God want us to stay in a state of guilt as long as we remain inside this body?

During my catholic upbringing we were taught that if we aren't able to achieve sinless perfection on earth, we must suffer a firey torture in purgatory. But I find the gospel as presented in the New Testament to make more sense.

Just like Paul, I hate my sins too. But what can I do to stop? How can I find peace if I still commit sins?

Paul, who wrote half of the New Testament, said himself that "I do what I do not want to do, and do not do what I want to do." As long as we're in the bodies we live in today, we will never be perfect. We are born with a sinful nature and it will stay there until we die and are resurrected into our new perfect bodies.

However, we are different from unbelievers because we rebuke our sinful nature. Because we love God, we try to do what we can to starve our sinful nature. We can improve, become better and more whole, but only the resurrection which Christ died for us to have can make us completely whole.

Don't be frightened by anyone who claims that you have to become perfect, they themselves know that they are imperfect. And those who claim to be without sin dishonor the sacrifice Jesus made for them.

Dear Deprave1. To live in an imperfect world, where temptations surround us day and night, it is too easy to sin, too easy to give in to selfishness and desire. It is only as we become older and wiser, we realise that many sins are not worth falling into sin for. Jesus does know, He has lived amongst us for 30 plus years. Jesus does know how easy it is, to believe the crafty temptations the Tempter lures us day after day. Jesus gave us 2 Commandments, they contain all which God`s 10 Commandments gave us. It makes it certainly easier to notice, how we can slowly, but surly, recognise sins and try and overcome them. 1) Love God with all our hearts, all our souls and all our minds. That is not too hard, if we remember how much God loves us. We prove our love to God by praying to Him daily, the prayer which Jesus taught us. Christianity is more like a personal relationship with God/Jesus, and we will find in time, God is listening, and we feel His Love and interest in what we tell Him. 2) Love our neighbour, i.e. all others, friend and foe, love them as we love ourselves. We start by trying to treat everybody we meet with courtesy, kindness, a helpful hand and a friendly smile. People will notice, Deprave, and sinning, as before, will become less and less. We will have the Love, Joy and Peace our Lord gives us, and will share it because it seems quite natural to do. You will not know until you really try it. We do not need to keep on sinning, Jesus will be help and guide us. We have years to become better and better, we have a loving and forgiving God, whom we " Ask" and will be helped time, and time again. Don`t believe the tempter`s crafty lies, trust God and notice the difference our wish to be like God wants us to be, becomes noticeable to all to see. I say this humbly and with love. Greetings from Emmy, sister in Christ.

Sin, at first makes us feel good. Sin like lust, over eating or eating junk, being mean to someone because they made us mad, ect.. However, as a Christian we don't get the pay off we thought we would, we are convicted.

One thing I have found that decreases my risk of repeating the same sin is asking God why my heart went astray in the first place. God has been faithful to show me my heart in the way he sees it. God is always very compassionate.

Guilt is not an emotion that lets you know you failed God.

When people say "I know, I know", look out -- Jesus warned against that. We are not to have that attitude on matters.

The Devil can manipulate guilt in you and the wicked powers try and say that you are not sanctified.

People go on sinning because they are faithless. They do not read Scripture, they do not keep the word in them and apply it through the day. Everyday. They run off to find countless other teachers to tell them what they want to hear and forget God. And they sin in all of this, but they think they are safe because they are so sure what sin is.

People do not do as Jesus says and 'put first the Kingdom of God'.

Why should they not? Because of work? Because of family? God says if you put His will first, He will help you on that.

So, no there is no radar for sin, besides your conscience, which can be wrong. You have to reason out matters for your self. You have to weigh out matters. People do not do this. They throw away their reasoning abilities because they want to sin.

Thing is sin is missing the mark, and if you are far from seeing the world the way Jesus saw it, then you are missing the mark.

Those who sin more do so because they are less blessed by God.

For overcoming adversity, there is meaning to that, it is as the soil which is for Christians to grow.

Part of the answer would be to know what sin is! What is sin?

Does God want to free us from sin? Jesus died to save us from sin, this was the price God was willing to pay to remove sin from us.

Did the work of God have the power to keep us from sin? Is the sacrifice good enough? Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present [you] faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 1cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].

Big statements.... Are they true?

It's not about us in our own strength working out perfection, we are told that our righteousness is filthy rags, but excusing sin due to our weakness is a dangerous idea. It is by the power and grace of God we can overcome sin, that is God's plan for us and He gave everything to see it come to fruition... the question is not can we......? but will we let Him.....?

its so we know were human because we sin but god will always forgive us. no woriies

[obscene picture against Jesus]

On the obscene picture and the idea that God has things go well for people who sin willfully while mocking Him:

Let's see how well your life goes.

When things are going wrong, remember: you can know why that is.

Funny these guys have to come on here and rely on such tactics as they have no words they can stand behind.

If they attempt to argue using words, they just end up getting embarrassed, which makes them angry and turn to such tactics as using obscene pictures like this one does.

The truth is always weightier then lies.

They do not know how to ask for forgiveness, so their sins are not forgiven.

They mock God, and even when God does forgive them, He still punishes them.

Then, we get these sorts crawling back talking about how miserable their lives are and how everything goes wrong for them and complaining about God being mean to them for no reason.

Thank you all for your kind words and advice. While I know I cannot ever achieve this kind of perfection in this life, I know that the Holy Spirit can live through me and help me whenever I am weak.
Thank You!

'We will not all sleep', when Jesus returns all Christians while 'be as He is, seeing Him as He is'.

So, one never knows when the Lord will return: but it will be like a thief.

But, yes, not 'in this life', regardless, as that will be a new, greater life.
