Brothers and sisters, I've learned that the quail for a month is key to understanding the beginning and the end of the seventh day of the week for 40 years with Manna before reaching the Promised Land.

“And say to the people, ‘Purify yourselves, for tomorrow you will have meat to eat. You were whining, and the LORD heard you when you cried, “Oh, for some meat! We were better off in Egypt!” Now the LORD will give you meat, and you will have to eat it. And it won’t be for just a day or two, or for five or ten or even twenty. You will eat it for a whole month until you gag and are sick of it. For you have rejected the LORD, who is here among you, and you have whined to him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’” (Numbers 11:18-20 NLT)

Divided is "tomorrow" from "today" on the "morning" of the seventh day, when they go out for Manna and not quail, because they learn from Manna not to go out for quail that night, having to stay without gathering food that day. They tested the Lord on the first food of the seventh day by going out for Manna and not for quail because they learned their lesson with Manna on the morning before the first night without quail. Clearly, divided is "tomorrow" from "today" in the morning, by not testing God again with quail as the second food of the seventh day during the first month.

That evening vast numbers of quail flew in and covered the camp. And the next morning the area around the camp was wet with dew. When the dew evaporated, a flaky substance as fine as frost blanketed the ground. The Israelites were puzzled when they saw it. “What is it?” they asked each other. They had no idea what it was… On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much as usual—four quarts for each person instead of two. Then all the leaders of the community came and asked Moses for an explanation. He told them, “This is what the LORD commanded: TOMORROW will be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath day set apart for the LORD. So bake or boil as much as you want TODAY, and set aside what is left for TOMORROW.” So they put some aside until morning, just as Moses had commanded. And in the morning the leftover food was wholesome and good, without maggots or odor. Moses said, “Eat this food TODAY, for today is a Sabbath day dedicated to the LORD. There will be no food on the ground today. You may gather the food for six days, but the seventh day is the Sabbath. There will be no food on the ground that day.” (Exodus 16:13-15, 22-26 NLT)

Notice that they disobey over Manna and not quail, separating “tomorrow” from “today” on the Manna above, because the first thing they can’t gather on the seventh day is the Manna before they can’t go out that night to gather quail on the seventh day.

Some of the people went out anyway on the seventh day, but they found no food. The LORD asked Moses, “How long will these people refuse to obey my commands and instructions? They must realize that the Sabbath is the LORD’s gift to you. That is why he gives you a two-day supply on the sixth day, so there will be enough for two days. On the Sabbath day you must each stay in your place. Do not go out to pick up food on the seventh day.” So the people did not gather any food on the seventh day. (Exodus 27-30 NLT)

Hi guevaraj, my man!

(I hope this isn't off topic. If it is, don't feel like you need to respond to it.)

Is it important that the Sabbath start in the morning versus the evening? It seems like that's the part that really gets people's backs up.

It seems like you can make kind of a good case of the Sabbath (morning or evening) being fixed to a particular place on Earth. And then of course, if it's morning somewhere it's evening somewhere else.

It's in trying to get people to accept a morning to morning Sabbath that there's a lot of resistance.

Brother, this seventh day from morning to morning with Manna is how you enter God's "rest" at the site of creation recorded in Genesis, which Hebrews 3 and 4 tells us does not enter God's "rest" near the Promised Land. Hebrews 3 and 4 tells us that for 40 years by "oath" God punished those who died in the desert by preventing them from entering His "rest" when He forced them with Manna to keep the seventh day of the week near the Promised Land.

God’s promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God. (Hebrews 4:1-2 NLT)

This is the good news of how to enter and how not to enter God's "rest", which did Joshua no good, because when they reached the Promised Land, they assumed incorrectly that an evening to evening Sabbath in the Promised Land was the seventh day of the week when God had taught them for 40 years that the seventh day of the week does not enter His "rest" near the Promised Land, which they enter earlier from evening to evening than the seventh day of the week from morning to morning. "Another day" refers to a different day than thought for the Sabbath: not the seventh day of the week everywhere, but the seventh day of the week in Eden.

Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. (Hebrews 4:8 NLT)

Okay... But in the end, from your point of view, isn't the important thing that people keep the Sabbath that is fixed to evening in the Promised Land?

The morning to morning part can come in handy when explaining the Sabbath rest passage in Hebrews. But in the end, it ends up being evening to evening in the Promised Land.

From reading other people's responses to you in the past, it sounds like they often get stuck on the morning to morning part, not realizing that it ends up being evening to evening.

I'm just trying to offer a helpful observation, hopefully it is helpful! :)

Brother, happy Sabbath! Hebrews 3 and 4 demolishes the human tradition of Sunday. The Hebrews passage not only restores the Sabbath from a human tradition, since Joshua assumed that the Sabbath in the Promised Land is a day of the week, when it falls in the Promised Land before the seventh day of the week begins from morning to morning, but it also demolishes the Sunday excuse to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. (Hebrews 4:8 NLT)

"Another day" refers to a day other than the one thought for the Sabbath: not the seventh day of the week everywhere, but the seventh day of the week in Eden. Hebrews 3 and 4 removes the excuse for keeping Sunday because Jesus rose after the Sabbath ends in the evening when it was still Saturday night and before Sunday began in the morning.

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” (John 20:1-2 NIV)

Matthew 28:1 surely proves that the apostolic authors are viewing the day as ending at the close of the evening hours and the new day commencing with the dawning of the night. The night dawns, which can be confusing because people do not normally, (in the west), consider that the night time has a dawning, but it does, according to the Hebrew mindset and according to the scripture.

The dawning of the night is the dawning of a new day and was generally recognized by the first appearance of two or three stars, (see Nehemiah 4:22 in its context), and this was the sign that the night, and thus, the next day had dawned. That is what Matthew 28:1 is relating by the wording even though stars are not mentioned in the text.

Matthew 28:1 TS2009 W/Footnotes
1 But late in the sabbath,a as it was dawning into day one of the week,b Miryam from Maḡdala and the other Miryam came to see the tomb. Footnotes: aGk. Sabbaths. bGk. one of the sabbaths. See also Mar 16:2, Luk 24:1, Joh 20:1 and 1Co 16:2. See Explanatory Notes - First Day of the Week.

Matthew 28:1 YLT (Young's Literal Translation)
1 And on the eve of the sabbaths, at the dawn, toward the first of the sabbaths, came Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre,

Matthew 28:1 HRB2012
1 But after the Sabbaths, at the dawning into the first of the Sabbaths, Mariam of Magdalene and the other Mariam came to look upon the grave.

The dawning of the night immediately following the Shabbat is the dawning into the next day because the day begins with the night and ends with the evening time. There are two dawns, the night time dawning and the morning dawning, and this can be confusing, but the night time dawning is the new day when counting full 24-hour days.

Brother, happy Sabbath. An "evening" can only occur after the light! Before the light there was "darkness" and not an "evening", those are different words that are not interchangeable. The "evening" of the first day occurred after first light and falls in the middle of the first day. All the days of creation end in what God called "night" from "evening" to "morning" because they begin with what God called "day" from "morning "to "evening". Making the days of creation from morning till morning, in the special case of the first day from first light to light again in the morning.

Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” And evening passed and MORNING came, marking the first day. (Genesis 1:3-5 NLT)

When do you celebrate the resurrection?

Thank you for the happy Sabbath wishes.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you.

When do you celebrate the resurrection?
Brother, happy Sabbath! Jesus asked me to remember Him in another way expressed in the following passage. If you want to do more than He asked by remembering Jesus on the day of His resurrection, then it is Saturday and not Sunday. I don't remember Jesus celebrating His resurrection on the wrong day, humans decided to remember Jesus on Sunday based on false assumptions about the days of creation.

Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.” He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you. (Luke 22:17-20 NLT)

So it sounds like you don't celebrate the Resurrection on a particular day. That's fine.

And I know that you're very much into following the scriptures and not human traditions. But if I may ask, why do you then use the Happy Sabbath blessing? It's not found in the scriptures as far as I know.

It's not that I mind it, really, it's just that it seems kind of out of place.

There are so many great blessings actually listed in the scriptures, why not use one of them? Like these

The Lord bless you, and keep you.

The Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you.

The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.

I looked up the link. As far as I can tell, it just says sunset to sunset.

But if I understand what our brother @guevaraj is saying, it boils down to the same thing. It's still sunset to sunset.

It's just a fixed sunset, as opposed to one that moves around.

We talked earlier about God being a God of order and not of confusion.

Everyone around the world Sabbath-ing at the same time sounds more orderly from my point of view.

No where in scripture does it say there is a fixed Sabbath or that it is only in Jerusalem (scripture shows otherwise) or anything about IDL. The Jews have been keeping the Sabbath since the days of Jesus from sundown to sundown from across the globe. What is being taught in this thread is a man-made interpretation that is leading people to break God’s 4th commandment. We are told Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. Revelation 14:12 and Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:19. God is not going to give us a commandment and than not tell us how to keep it. If there are consequences in not keeping the commandments and teaching others to not keep the commandments, we do not have a God of confusion who is not going to tell us how to do keep them. Jesus never taught the Sabbath is only in Jerusalem, so the teaching here in this thread that no one in scripture knew how to keep the Sabbath is not a biblical teaching and should be concerning for those who want to worship God in Truth and Spirit.

You are free to believe what you want and I am not commenting further on this thread so we will have to agree to disagree.

Sister, the message is found in Hebrews 3 and 4, where "rest" refers to God's "rest" on the seventh day of creation. In Hebrews 3 and 4, God makes two announcements about this "rest": how not to enter this "rest" and how they are wrong about the Sabbath since Joshua when they wrongly assumed that the Sabbath in the Promised Land is a day of the week.
  1. By "oath", God punished those who died in the desert for 40 years by not allowing them to enter His "rest" with Manna by forcing them to keep the seventh day of the week near the Promised Land where the Sabbath does not fall on the seventh day of the week.
  2. They had not benefited from this punishment since Joshua, when they assumed that the Sabbath in the Promised Land was the seventh day of the week when God had taught them that the seventh day of the week does not enter this "rest" near the Promised Land during the 40 years in the desert with Manna.

You are free to believe what you want and I am not commenting further on this thread so we will have to agree to disagree.
I agree that there is no scripture that states that there is a fixed Sabbath, but neither am I aware of a scripture that says that the Sabbath moves around.

So in a case like this, it seems to make sense to go with the weight of the evidence in the scriptures.

I agree that Jewish people have been keeping a Sabbath of some kind since the time of Jesus. But they may be in error, just as they are in error about the Messiah.

Peace be with you!

Like these: The Lord bless you, and keep you. The Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.
Brother, I find support for the "happy Sabbath" greeting in the following passage.

“Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don’t pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the LORD’s holy day. Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly. Then the LORD will be your delight. I will give you great honor and satisfy you with the inheritance I promised to your ancestor Jacob. I, the LORD, have spoken!” (Isaiah 58:13-14 NLT)

Well that would be "Delightful Sabbath" I think.

Why not use ones found in the scriptures?
"The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen."

Brother, the greeting "happy Sabbath" is shorter than "enjoy the Sabbath" direct from the text. I reserve the word "delight" as the sentiment elevated to the Lord. We are to "enjoy the Sabbath" so that we can "delight" in "the Lord". Using direct quotes: "enjoy the Sabbath" so that "the Lord will be your delight" on the "Sabbath".

Not specific to the goal on the "Sabbath": to "enjoy the Sabbath" by not pursuing our own "interests" or following our own "desires" to make "the Lord" our "delight" on the "Sabbath". Something simple, like planning quality time with the family together on the Sabbath than during the rest of the week.
