I would, judging by my own experience, think i have that choice too.
Unfortunately, i might add, because my corrupt soul makes the bad choice most of the times...

As I think we all must truthfully admit....

I feel have the choice to follow / "walk with" God or not.
I often think it would be better if God kind of forced Himself on me, like He did with Paul and Jonah.
Indeed! Good thing God is so merciful!
We'd be lost (i would be) if He wasn't...

But if I am to live on in the flesh,
this will mean fruitful labor for me;
and I do not know which to choose.

Trying to paste Phil 1:21-26 here and cannot figure it out.

He was saying that part of him wants to die so he can be with Jesus in heaven, but he is still has work to do on Earth, fruitful work that will help believers and non believers because he would be preaching the Gospel.
Thank you. And he chose to continue to work.

But if I am to live on in the flesh,
this will mean fruitful labor for me;
and I do not know which to choose

But I wondered if anyone thought it interesting that
he said it was HIS choice to live or to die.
:)

I think he was wondering if he should keep on striving, or rest until death.

Trying to paste Phil 1:21-26 here and cannot figure it out.

he was expressing a spiritual stage/room that some souls, including himself, go through. later on he decided the sacrifice of staying in the flesh for a bit longer was pleasing to God even though if he would have died he would have been set free from the world and would have been with the Lord without the burdens we humans deal with. other saints, such as saint ignatius, had specifically wanted to be mayrtered and begged his fellows that they do not try and stop such things from occurring. when the world was going to finally crucify Jesus, Jesus knew the time was right to fulfill his Fathers will but peter decided that he should rather stay but Jesus rebuked peter.

Phil 1:20-26 (YLT)
according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, and in all freedom, as always, also now Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether through life or through death, for to me to live is Christ, and to die gain. And if to live in the flesh is to me a fruit of work, then what shall I choose? I know not; for I am pressed by the two, having the desire to depart, and to be with Christ, for it is far better, and to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account, and of this being persuaded, I have known that I shall remain and continue with you all, to your advancement and joy of the faith, that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my presence again to you.

the thing is that paul CAN choose because God desires that we have freedom, but the freedom is the spiritual maturity in the Son of God, unto the spirit of liberty. not all are at such stages/rooms. God WANTS us to be free because you can only love if you have freedom. and since we have to have freedom, the possibility for evil to be is such, for God saw that freedom was worth the sacrifice of less than perfect and divine outcomes for his children.
