Not sure if a thread like this has been started recently, but...

Why are YOU Baptist ? Why Baptist and nothing else ?

Me, personally ? I grew up in a Baptist church. It was actually rather boring and they never taught about the Holy Spirit.. Actually, I didn't really learn the most about Jesus and salvation til I left that church. I then moved on to another Baptist church and wow, I was so shocked b/c I'd never seen such an active preacher, active congregation, and such a Living Word.

I'd consider my church to be Bapticostal. I used to boast the Pentecostal faith icon, but I could be considered either and both. My church is very Charismatic as well, but I love it! I'd want to be nowhere else. I was forced to go to Catholic mass when I was in the 11th grade (long ago!) and did not like it. It didn't do a thing for me. I've been to a NonDenominational service and it was actually not too different from the services at my church. Being a Baptist is just natural; it's home for me :)

I'm Baptist but not strictly. In other words, I don't go to a Baptist church just because it's Baptist or because I'm Baptist. I'd go to any church of any denomination that lined up with what the Bible teaches. I just happen to be going to a Baptist church right now (and for the last 17 years) because of its solid Biblical teaching and the family of Christ that I've gotten to know there. There are many Baptist churches that I would definitely not want to go to.

I grew up, sort of, in a Catholic Church, and it did nothing for me. I could not for the life of me pay attention or learn everything. A month or so ago I decided to go to Church by myself, and I choose the Baptist because I wanted to go to a Church that went very much by the Bible. I don't like churches that make up their own ways.

The church I go to is also very friendly, and very active.

I was raised Catholic.. I've been to a couple non-denominational, Methodist, Luthren, Baptist and bible churches.

The reason that I chose an independant baptist church is because it was the church that preached from the bible... good bad and ugly, in a loving manor. If I had a question I had resources to ask, and always got a biblical answer, w/ biblical support and recources to find the answers on my own too.

I'm not saying that the other denominations don't teach biblical principals (becuase I believe they do).. just that I don't always agree w/ how they do it.. or in some cases what they add or subtract to their biblical messages.

Anabaptist
1) The baptists were more hospitable to slaves. The issue, actually, split the denomination into the Baptists and Southern Baptists.

2) The baptists sermon fills me more than any other denominational service, because in everything they do they tell a story of how they made it over.

3) The baptists only appear to be affected by the culture that holds the sermon, not mainstream American media.

...And that's why.
