Why are the Macedonian Orthodox Church not recognised by His All Holiness?

That day came on 19 July 1967 when the famed “Church – People’s Council” held in Ohrid decided to brake its ties with the Serbian Patriarchate and the Universal Orthodox Church proclaiming itself “autocephalous” (independent) under the name of “Macedonian Orthodox Church” (MOC) from every Orthodox Christian ecclesiastical body in the world (except, of course, the Communist Party of Yugoslavia). Comrade Done Ilievski, long serving communist official responsible for religious matters in Macedonia, in one of his books1 describes the background of this momentous event:

The Macedonian Orthodox Church is neither Macedonian nor Orthodox. Both the Macedonian identity and the church are the product of Communist Yugoslavia.

The Ancient Macedonians were a Greek tribe as were the Spartans, Thessalians, etc. They had their own dialect of Greek and idioms just as all the other regions of what later became known as Greece had. The borders of the so called Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia lie wholly outside the borders of Ancient Macedonia under King Philip. There has never been a Macedonian ethnicity. The term Macedonia today describes a geographic region, parts of which belong to Greece, Albania, FYROM and Bulgaria. The language spoken in FYROM is slavic, chiefly a Bulgarian dialect which is because they originally described themselves as Bulgarians before years of Communist propaganda over successive generations convinced them that they were something else.

The whole purpose of fabricating the 'Macedonian' identity was to attempt to lay historical claim to the region of Macedonia lying in Northern Greece so that the Communists would have access to the Aegean Sea.

My Hub worked in FYROM for a few years. The above statement Is the main thing I heard over and over.
