  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Anyway, I am a bit shy of anyone I don't know--I usually am afraid others don't like me and have a tendency to think people of other races won't like me because I am different. I am not racist, I just think people in general don't like new people and I am a squeamish person when comes to meeting anyone.

There's nothing wrong with people who are bi-racial or of different races really. Most of what is wrong with people is the environment people grow up in and what kind of behavior they learn when they are young. I am part Native American (mostly white though) and I don't see anything wrong with intermixing.

I guess to generalize it, most racism comes from the fear of the unknown, what other people tell you and how much you trust them, and wanting to feel like your better than other people.

I do not fear discussing this topic as I feel bad that slavery even happened the way it did and that some Christians actually defended the practice as it was mentioned in the Old Testament. Add to that the evil caused by it and you can stir up a hornet's nest unless you understand those were only some Christians. Some Christians in history agreed with killing off Native Americans because they believed that God made the land theirs, but that doesn't mean all of them did. There are plenty if examples of this, but never accuse Christianity of racism, accuse the people who used it to defend wrong things.

As you can see, I can discuss racism and am not afraid of it. It is wrong to be Christian and not believe God loves all people. It may be that some people just are not comfortable with this topic or deem it not as important as some others. Maybe they just don't want to discuss a possible inflamatory subject--I don't know.

Race is a touchy subject. People sometimes communicate their feelings and thoughts differently and they can be taken out of context. I guess most feel it is easier to not offend others accidently and to just not talk about it. I personally don't mind talking about it. I have friends of many different races and backgrounds and have had a lot of opportunities to discuss such things without offending each other.

God Bless

I think this might depend a lot on the culture the person lives in, as well.
Race is probably a touchier topic in USA than in Brazil.
Here, though racism exists indeed, it is a lot less extreme (though the newly arrive American-styled "black militants", the most racist people of all in my opinion, would disagree), and the great majority of the population is miscigenated.

I think people become too much "ideologized" when the topic is race. Surely, scientifically speaking it is incorrect to use such a term with the human species, for the differences are not enough to make different races of humans. But still, it is possible that the difference of ethnicities and body complexion are not only physical, but that people of different origins may have different, on average, mental characteristics (temperament, different kinds of intelligence, abilities, creativity, etc).

It is a scientific subject before anything else. And as such, there is not much room for opinions.

to talk about race relations and racism in general in regards to their spirituality?

Becasue there is oftnen never any real discussion. discussion on race in this forum are generally either a. a bunch of people repeating "racism/racists are bad/evil" and variations threof or b. "lets all gang up on the guy who dares to have an un-PC idea".

I don't understand the original question at all, but the other comments have been interesting. I'm not afraid of "race" discussions. I don't think I have a racist bone in my body, so I think sometimes comments or ideas will go right over my head. I just don't think along those lines.

That being said, I do believe 'Political Correctness' has gone over the edge.

I think there are. I suppose it depends what you mean by "race", but even seebs has said that race exists, if I remember corectly.

But still, it is possible that the difference of ethnicities and body complexion are not only physical, but that people of different origins may have different, on average, mental characteristics (temperament, different kinds of intelligence, abilities, creativity, etc).

Now observe Racial Discussion Type B. that I mentioned in my preivous post as you will probaby be ganged-up on for that last sentence.

That is so true. I realised with my "witchcraft" thread that a Christian's assumption that martial arts & yoga is of the devil are basing their belief on racial/cultural prejudice. They use Christianity to justify their contempt of beliefs & practices that is foreign to them. :sigh:
