was the Proconsul of Achaia (held office ca. A.D. 51). The Jews of the province of Asia sought Gallio's aid to prohibit the work of Paul. Gallio refused to be a party to their intended persecution of the apostle and dismissed their appeal against his decision. Acts 18.12-17

a son of Phinehas and grandson of Eli the priest that raised Samuel in the ways of the temple. Ichabod was born as the news of his father's death was brought to Shiloh. His mother died shortly after labour, giving the child a name (meaning “no glory” or “alas for the glory”) which reflected the Israelite defeat by the Philistines. 1 Samuel 4:19-22

Jacob

Jacob (later given the name Israel) is considered a patriarch of the Israelites. According to the Book of Genesis, Jacob was the third Hebrew progenitor with whom God made a covenant. He is the son of Isaac and Rebecca, the grandson of Abraham, Sarah and of Bethuel, and the younger twin brother of Esau. Jacob had twelve sons and at least one daughter, by his two wives, Leah and Rachel, and by their handmaidens Bilhah and Zilpah.
