(Titus Flavius Josephus, 37-100AD)

Roman Jewish Historian, Traitor.

Josephus was the Roman Emperors propaganda General, sorta like Hitlers Joseph Goebbels.

Jewish born "Yoseph Ben Matityahu" changed his name to "Titus Flavius Josephus" A Non-Christian.

He was a Jewish military leader in 67BC, where he commanded himself and fellow 39 soldiers to commit suicide by casting lots, as Roman General Titus was about to seige their hiding place, 38 committed suicide as Josephus and one fellow soldier walked away living.

(Josephus, Jewish Wars, Book 3, Chapter 8, Part 7)

He was a Traitor to the Jewish People, Was a friend, advisor, translator, and negotiator for Roman General Titus during the seige of Jerusalem 70AD.

Josephus Hung out with Roman nobility, defected from his Jewish priestly roots during the war with Rome, and became a Roman Citizen.

The Emperors brought him multiple slave girls to marry, He had lavish estates in Judea, and monies provided by the Emperors.

My study finds he was a propaganda General for the Roman Emperors.

His history is in question by many, as being false, tall tales.

The Jewish "Benedict Arnold" A Traitor.

Have you actually read anything written by the Jewish Historian Josephus?

Have you read any scholarly works which compared what he wrote to other historical sources, like the Bible for example?

He described a Roman fort built beside of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. Recent archeological excavations by well known Israeli archeologist Eli Shukron have confirmed what Josephus recorded, in reference to Fort Antonia.
Read the book "Temple" by Robert Cornuke, which documents these facts.

See the link below.

The Temple Mount and Fort Antonia

Some of the authors who wrote books about the American Revolutionary War may not have been Christians. However, this does not mean that their books are wrong, if they accurately recorded the events of the time.

Being human, he certainly wasn't infallible.

But even if his accounts are only half accurate, and they almost certainly are, then they are sufficiently credible and compelling.

Some commentary from his own kind.

The early Christians thought very highly of Josephus, because he ended his comments about jesus by saying that he (Jesus) was the Christ. (I do not remember if he used the word "was" or "is," but for the present, this is immaterial. A person writing propaganda for the Roman Empire would never make such a statement.

You've apparently read no commentary by the Jews themselves.

Who is your source of Jewish history?

You got nothing, because the bible doesn't say anything about history between the OT and NT, nor does it provide any of the details of the Jewish wars against Rome.
The bible say's nothing about Jewish/Hebrew history?

That's a new one on me.

That's not what I said and you know it. Here is what I said:

Joh 10:22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.

Mat 24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
Mat 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Luk 19:41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

Luk 19:42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

Luk 19:43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

Luk 19:44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

Luk 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

Luk 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

Luk 21:22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

Luk 21:23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
(See Luke 23:29)

Luk 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Luk 23:26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

Luk 23:27 And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

Luk 23:28 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

Luk 23:29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.

Luk 23:30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

Luk 23:31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

Jesus described much of what would happen to the city of Jerusalem during 70 AD.

What is all this supposed to contribute to the current discussion?

Truth 7t7,
Goebbels is a bad example because the Nazis were dedicated to war, wiping out "lesser races" and started WWII.
Josephus was a commander of the rebellion in Galilee, but when major cities that he fortified like Japha got crushed by Rome he saw that the rebellion did not have a chance and at that point he switched his ideology and started advocating surrender for peace with Rome so that the Romans would let the Jews keep their Temple. Also, Josephus was not really a full propagandist for Rome like Goebbels was for Germany: In his writings the Romans come across as often doing lots of bad things like slaughtering civilians and villages. He gave lots of cases that did not make the Romans look good like the Romans trying to bring images into the Temple but giving up after counterpersuasion. He also makes Roman history look pretty troubled and criticizes emperors like Nero and Caligula, meanwhile defending Jewish history and religion.

There were numerous factors that made him change side. He claimed that God was on the side of Rome's victory and he based this on prophecies that he claimed were in Daniel, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. Another factor were the omens that he saw impending doom on the city and Temple like the crashing of the lintel in the Temple. One more factor was the internecine strife among rebel factions.

Personally, I find it hard to consider Josephus a "hero" because there is a grain of truth in what you are saying in criticizing him in the OP- the cave incident where the soldiers killed himself but he and his bodyguard didn't strikes me as pretty weird.

But anyway, I think he has lots of information and sometimes his writings are inspiring and interesting. One of the main questions that his "Wars of the Jews" book raised for me was his claim that God wanted the Jewish rebel cities in Galilee to be defeated. And this is curious for me. I am trying to see why God would have wanted that... or if God really didn't have a particular desire for that and it was just really an issue of a much stronger power, Rome, defeating a weaker one, the Galilean and Judean rebels.

I made a thread where I asked about this and invite you to:
Why would the Lord want the defeat of Japha and other cities rebelling against Rome in 66-70 AD?
