I always understood the Gospel account - where Judas' betrayal (representing those closest to Christ), the Jewish leaders (representing God's chosen people) and Pilate's complicity (representing the Roman Empire, or in a broader sense, the rest of the world) - to be a condemnation of all of us; thus all of humankind is responsible for His death, including me.

This ought to be a short thread, then. ;)

What about the Godhead?

LOL

As far as the Godhead...God is of course involved as both priest and victim, with full foreknowledge planning for our redemption through this means...but it doesn't let us off the hook, and the details of the mechanism of redemption seems to be under dispute among Christians and needs a wiser mind than mine to sort it out. (Guess I'm saying I don't know...)

And was crucified for us (Mark 15:25; 1 Corinthians 15:3)
under Pontius Pilate, (John 19:6)
and suffered, (Mark 8:31)
and was buried. (Luke 23:53; 1 Corinthians 15:4)

Thanks, so God planned this, and wanted it to happen, so obviously He forced Judas to betray Christ, and He coerced the Jewish leaders to want to kill Him.

God planned it without question, but I don't know that I implied, or believe, that He forced anyone to do anything - rather, that knowing what they (and we) would do, He planned our redemption in His love. Not sure that He wanted it to happen, except in that His love for us made it worthwhile in His eyes. But then, what do I know?

No one "killed" Jesus. Scripture makes clear that he gave up (voluntarily) his life for us. Would it be possible for us to kill God?

God Bless

Perhaps the better question would be, what killed Jesus?

But then, what do I know?
As the Apostles all testified, we once knew Jesus the way of man's thinking, but now we know Jesus after the Spirit. (i.e. YHWH'S revealed truth, pure and right and sure)...

and concerning all Scripture, once YHWH reveals anything to us:
" Then opened HE their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,"

No one killed Jesus?
I wanted that on the list with the other things. There is no one answer. Acts 3:15 (you killed the Prince of life), Heb. 6:6 (those who fall away crucify the Son of God all over again) - the Bible gives more than one answer. To say "choose one" is to ask the wrong question.

Sorry, I was being facetious. I should have said so.

No Roman guard pounded nails through His hands and feet?

He did die. He was human as well, right?
