Who are the sons of the kingdom cast into outer darkness?

When Jesus explained the parable of the wheat and the tares to his disciples he said the good seed is the sons of the kingdom, the tares are the sons of the evil one, and the harvest will take place at the end of the age, Mat 13:36-43.

Mat 13:37-43 He answered, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. (38) The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, (39) and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. (40) Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. (41) The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, (42) and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (43) Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear (what the Spirit is saying).

The “sons of the kingdom” are mentioned just once more when Jesus said they will be cast into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Mat 8:11-12 I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, (12) while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth."

    a3.png

If the good seed are the "sons of the kingdom" in Mat 13:38, then why are these saints thrown into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, while other saints will be at the feast of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in heaven in Mat 8:11-12? What is Jesus telling us in this story?

Jesus definition for “the sons of the kingdom” as the good seed reveals some Christians will be raptured, while other saints will be left behind in the darkness of the tribulation.

Zeph 1:14-15 The great day of the LORD is near.......... (15) A day of wrath is that day, a day of distress and anguish, a day of ruin and devastation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

    v20.png
Jesus also said two will be in the field, one will be taken and the other left, therefore stay awake for you do not know what day your Lord is coming, Matthew 24:37-42.

If Jesus only takes the saints who are awake when he returns, then what happens to the other saints who are left behind and have missed the rapture?

    b45.png

Christians are saved by faith and not by works, therefore “the sons of the kingdom” that are thrown into outer darkness where there's weeping and gnashing of teeth, cannot be a description for the pain and suffering of an unbeliever in hell. But then what does this puzzling phrase represent?

Its important to understand that Jesus hides his parables from those who are wise in their own eyes and rely on their own understanding to interpret scripture instead of trusting in what God says through his Spirit revealed Word, Proverbs 3:5.

Therefore to understand the meaning of “weeping and gnashing of teeth” we must become like little children and ask Jesus to explain his parables to us instead of relying on our imperfect reasoning to interpret this mysterious phrase, Matthew 11:25.

Jer 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

    The Bible is God's dictionary
The Bible is God's dictionary where he defines what his words and phrases represent through how they are used in a variety of scriptures. So with this in mind lets be like Bereans and carefully examine “weeping” and “gnashing of teeth” in the scriptures so we may be able to understand what happens to “the sons of the kingdom” (Christians) who are thrown into outer darkness at the end of the age when the harvest begins, 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

In Acts 7:54-60, gnashing of teeth is describing the Jews intense hatred for Stephen when he was being stoned to death for his faith in Christ as he cried out with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.

    c85.png

In Lamentations 2:14-19, the Lord exalted the might of Israels enemies who gnashed their teeth in hatred against the Jews as they were being taken captive in Babylon for 70 years. As a result of God's severe discipline for rebellious Israel, they wept tears of repentance in the beginning of the night watches, Lamentations 3:38-48.

The beginning of the night watches when Israel was being taken captive for 70 years in Babylon, is prophetic for the beginning of 7 years of tribulation for Israel when their enemies will gnash their teeth in hatred as they seek to kill all the Jews, Daniel 7:25, Revelation 18:1-4.

Job says my adversary gnashes his teeth at me, as the Lord gives Job up to the power of Satan when his faith is being tested. As a result of Job's painful trials his face is red with weeping and says, on my eyelids is deep darkness, Job 16:9-11, 16.

In Psalms 35:15-17, like profane mockers “at a feast” the wicked gnash their teeth at the righteous who call out to God to rescue them from the lions. Profane mockers “at a feast” is a prophetic clue for the Feast of Trumpets when the wicked will gnash their teeth in hatred as they persecute Israel and the lukewarm saints who are left behind when the tribulation begins.

In Psalms 37:10-13, The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth, but the Lord says the wicked's day of judgment is coming.

In Psalms 112:9-10, the poor in spirit are blessed by God and the wicked see this and gnash their teeth in anger, but the desire of the wicked will perish.

There is not one scripture in the Bible that says “weeping and gnashing of teeth” is a description of the wicked who are crying and suffering in hell.

Instead this phrase reveals the wicked “gnash their teeth” in hatred as they persecute the righteous and Israel who “weep tears of repentance” for their sins, as they cry out to God to deliver them from their enemies who are persecuting them.

Weeping and gnashing of teeth in the New Testament
It's important to recognize “weeping and gnashing of teeth” is only mentioned in the following scriptures that speak of the end of the age when the tribulation begins.

In Matthew 8:12, the "sons of the kingdom" who are the "good seed" cast into outer darkness, represent the immature justified saints who willfully sin and are law-breakers in God's Kingdom (Matthew 13:41-43), that will be cast into the darkness of the tribulation when the wicked will gnash their of teeth as they hate and persecute the lukewarm saints who will weep tears of repentance.

While the obedient sanctified saints with great faith like the centurion, will be raptured and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

Thus one saint who is spiritually awake when Jesus returns will be taken, while the other saint who is asleep in the darkness of his sin will be left behind, Matthew 24:37-42.

In Matthew 13:36-43, Jesus clearly explains the "sons of the kingdom" are the good seed who sin and do evil in his kingdom, that will be thrown into the fiery furnace of the tribulation where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, then the disobedient saints will repent of their sins and shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.

In Matthew 13:47-50, There is a great catch of fish at the end of the age. The good are kept in containers and the bad are thrown away, when the angels will separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace where there's weeping and gnashing of teeth.

In Matthew 22:1-14, The friend who tried to enter the banquet but had no wedding garments is bound hand and foot and cast out of the wedding banquet into outer darkness of the tribulation where there's weeping and gnashing of teeth.

In Matthew 24:45-51, The Son of Man returns to bless his faithful servant who feeds his fellow servants at the proper time, while the wicked (Christian) servant who says my master's (Jesus) coming is delayed and beats his fellow servants (Christians), and eats and drinks with the drunkards, will be appointed a place with the hypocrites in the tribulation where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

In Matthew 25:14-30 The master returns to reward his faithful servants who invested their God given talents. And the worthless (Christian) servant who buried his talent was cast into the darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

In Luke 13:24-30 Jesus said strive to enter the narrow door to the feast of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in heaven, for many (disobedient saints) will seek to enter and not be able. Those who desire to enter but are locked out because they are workers of evil, will be sent to a place where there's weeping and gnashing of teeth when the tribulation begins.

The sons of the kingdom, the friend without wedding clothes, the wicked servant and the man who buried his master's talent that were all cast into outer darkness, reveals Christians need to be feeding the Word of God to the servants in their household at the proper time, investing their God given talents in other people, and having clean white wedding garments unspotted by the sinful pleasures of the world, if they want to enter the narrow door to the wedding banquet and escape God's discipline for the lukewarm church in the darkness of the tribulation, where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 1 Corinthians 5:5

    b10.png
Luke 13:24 "Strive to enter through the narrow door (to the wedding banquet). For many (immature worldly saints), I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

    Two different narrow doors
In Matthew 7:13-14, entering the first narrow door that leads to life represents our salvation and justification by faith in Jesus death for our sins and his resurrection, John 10:9, Romans 10:8-10.

While striving to enter the second narrow door to the feast of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, is a conditional reward for the obedient, mature and sanctified saints with great faith like the centurion, when Jesus returns to rapture his bride that has made herself ready by her righteous deeds when the tribulation begins at the end of the age, Luke 13:24-30, Matthew 8:8-12, Revelation 19:7-8.

    c70.1.png
To enter the second narrow door to the wedding banquet we need to take up our cross and follow Jesus will for our lives in faithfulness and love, and not by relying on our baggage of pride in our self-righteous works or our church attendance.

    a8.2.png
Mat 16:24 Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

But the “sons of the Kingdom” who are "the good seed" that practice lawlessness, will be left behind and cast into the tribulation to be disciplined by the Lord, when the worldly church will be handed over to the wicked who will “gnash their teeth” in hatred so the disobedient saints will “weep tears” of repentance, as they wash their filthy sin stained robes and make them white in the blood of the Lamb, Matthew 13:41-43, Revelation 3:4, 7:14-17.

Prov 25:26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.

1 Cor 5:5 you are to deliver this (disobedient Christian) man to Satan for the destruction of the (sinful) flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

    v31.png
Jer 4:4 "Circumcise yourselves to the LORD and remove the (sinful) foreskin of your heart oh men of Judah, or else My wrath will go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of the evil of your deeds."

    a7.png

The sons of the kingdom come out of great tribulation
Rev 7:13-17 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?" (14) I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are the (sons of the kingdom who missed the rapture, the) ones coming out of great tribulation. They have washed their (sin stained) robes (through repentance) and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. (15) "Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. (16) They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. (17) For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their (weeping) eyes."

    v32.png

"In the Blink of an Eye" is a video of testimonies by Christians who had traumatic dreams of missing the rapture because they were not walking with Jesus in faithfulness and love. And it appears these dreams are a warning from the Lord that we need to be ready in our heart for Jesus sudden return like a thief in the night when he will rapture his loving and sanctified bride who is awake a ready.

Luke 21:34-36 "But watch yourselves (saints) lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and (the sinful) cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap (and you are left behind in the tribulation). (35) For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. (36) But stay awake at all times (and follow the Lord's will), praying that you may be accounted worthy (in faith and love) to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man (as his faithful bride at the wedding banquet)."

The saints who are growing in faith and love
will be accounted worthy when Jesus returns like a thief
2 Thess 1:3-5 We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing......(5) This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering--

1 Thess 5:4-6 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief......(6) So then let us not sleep, as other (carnal saints) do, but let us keep awake and be sober.

To understand more about the "sons of the kingdom" who represent the lukewarm church that will be cast into the darkness of the tribulation, read the following articles.
Why will the first be last, and the last first?
Why are many called to the wedding banquet but few are chosen?
Will you be raptured in the first, second or third watch of the night?

In the articles below I examine the scriptures that seem to be pointing to the years of 2031 to 2038 when God's tribulation judgment of unbelieving mankind will soon take place.
Is the year when the tribulation ends written in scripture?
    Part 2, 2 days (2,000 years), 7th hour, 38
    Part 3, 2-38
    Part 4, Genesis 14:14, 17:17, Exodus 7:7, John 5:5
    Part 5, Psalms 83 & 90

Sons of the kingdom are babies of born again people, i.e. church kids that didn't get born again.

He spoke about two different children of the kingdom.

In chp 8 it was the original ones, the Jews. In chp 13 he speaks of the new children who are those who accept Jesus as Messiah.

    My KJV Bible reads:

    Mat 8:11-12
    (11) And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
    (12) But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

God is talking about His External Covenant Body. The Professed Believers of the Kingdom who are NOT saved. IN that corporate sense, they were made of God a peculiar people called out unto service to Him, Children of the Kingdom CORPORATELY! They will be the ones to be thrown into outer darkness:

    Mat 22:13-14
    (13) Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
    (14) For many are called, but few are chosen.

They are professed believers who are called of God to be a great nation REPRESENTING the Body of Christ, but only "FEW" within that body are chosen!

You see, the Covenant is a continual relationship that God has had with His people, both saved and unsaved. There was an external Covenant People of God before the Cross with visible national Israel as a representative, and there is an external Covenant people of God after the Cross with visible New Testament Church as a representative. Israel is the BODY of Christ, the temple of His Body, wherever it is found. And there has always been a "true" and "eternal" church WITHIN the larger external Church, Israel. In the Old, as well as in the New. In other words, the Church and Israel, are synonymous terms with respect to God's covenant people:

    Act 7:37-38
    (37) This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
    (38) This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

That "Church" Israel in the physical wilderness was no different from the "Church" Israel in the spiritual wilderness today (eg. Woman fled into the wilderness, Revelation 12). It's an external body or corporate group, Children of the kingdom, within which are found the "true" Children of God, the true Israel within external Israel. Therefore, God was talking about unsaved, unfaithful, rebellious external believers of the congregation, who will be thrown into the Lake of Fire FOREVER. They are not "Saints" who will be punished temporarily before rejoin with God's family in the future as you believe.

    Moreover...

Some people seem to be missing that the corporate Church "IS" in a COVENANTED RELATIONSHIP with God, and always has been. Just as God's illustration of the Olive tree symbolizes! And the true Church always has been the Spiritual Israel of God within that external Covenant body, Israel. Nothing has changed. The Olive tree that stood pre-cross still stands evidencing that. There is still a visible Covenant Israel, and there is still a Spiritual Israel. Is this not what God was illustrating in Romans Chapter 9? An Israel within an Israel?

    Romans 9:6
    • " Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:"
There, God has said it plainly! There are two Israelis. One an external Israelis, and one, the eternal Israelis. And this holds as true today as it did 2000 years ago. Because Gentile branches, grafted into the tree of Israel, become "spiritual" Israel, spiritual Jews, part of the exact same long-standing Covenant of the Israel tree. That's why they left the Gentile tree, to become a part of Covenanted Israel. I found it astonished that many people don't see this truth!

    Ro 2:28-29
    • "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
    • But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God."
Inwardly we are "TRUE Israel" of God. Externally or visibly some of us are also the Israel of God, the holy congregation, the sanctified nation, the covenant children of God, the visible body of Christ, who is the "true" Israel!

    He was talking about Jews.

They were the sons of the kingdom, but many of them were cast away in the end of the age in 70 AD.

The sons of the kingdom are the physical sons who reject the spiritual birth, but retain their physical birth as sufficient.

Where is your Scripture for this?

No, there are always two children of the kingdom. God's Kingdom. Inside it, there are one group of True Elect and One group of Professed believers. One many external/corporate believers, and One few True Eternal Elect. Many are called, few are chosen. These two groups were always part of God's Congregation, starting with the Old Testament first, and then the New. Nothing to do with 70AD. The Kingdom Representation of God's congregation already took place at the Cross, not 70AD, when the kingdom was taken from the Jews and gave to the New Testament Congregation so the generation of External and Eternal believers continued.

The Scripture I quoted in my previous post has already proved this.

    Nope!

"Many will come from east and west" = All Elect (not everyone), both Jewish and Gentiles from Old and New Testament, will come and sit in the Kingdom of Heaven.

"Sons of the Kingdom" = All external believers (unsaved) of the Congregation of Israel will be thrown into the outer darkness (lake of fire).

Read your verse carefully. Here we have a kingdom, a kingdom which can have some cast out of it, and others from the east and west come into it. What kind of kingdom could this be? An eternal Kingdom? A New Covenant eternal Kingdom? No, surely not. A external Covenant kingdom is the only kind that children could be cast out of. Here again, both old and New Covenant saints co-mingled in one kingdom. Not two separate kingdoms. Selah!

Not sure why you say "nope!" and later confirm that its about Jews and "many" are Christians from all nations. What are you exactly arguing about?

As to the question posed in the title of this thread, there are numerous angles to look at this from. If we start with what the OP started with, Matthew 13:37-43, let's look at it from that angle first.

Matthew 13:36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
    37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
    38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
    41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Let's start with verse 38---but the tares are the children of the wicked one. One thing this should make us think of is the following.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

This verse indicates that the serpent has children. Thy seed
is meaning these--- the tares are the children of the wicked one---the wicked one meaning the serpent, meaning the devil, meaning satan.

Many take---it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel---to be meaning Christ. And if it is meaning Christ, it is meaning this---He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man.

Since there is also the woman in Genesis 3:15, and the fact she has children as well--and her seed---this tells us who the children of the kingdom are. They are the children of the woman, Israel, the children of the kingdom, meaning the church.

There are more angles to look at this from, so this is only one of them for now.

The faith of the Centurion impressed Jesus Christ of Nazareth so much that He used him as an example of one, not yet a son, who had more faith than many sons of the Kingdom of God. In other words, all of Isreal is considered sons of the Kingdom yet some are wheat and some are tares.

Israel is not meaning everyone on the planet, though. Yet, there are many who insist that the tares symbolize all lost ppl who have ever lived. Tares resemble wheat in it's early stages, meaning in the real world, agriculturally speaking. The wheat in the parable is obviously meaning Christians within the church. And if tares resemble wheat at some point, and that wheat symbolizes Christians in the church, meaning those that remained saved in the end, that means tares are meaning professed Christians in the church who don't remain saved in the end. Jesus refers to these in Matthew 7, and in Matthew 25, as the goats. And leading up to the sheep and goats judgment, Jesus refers to these as unprofitable servants. But I don't expect anyone on this board to be on the same page with me about any of this. Yet, there are ppl out there on the same page with me here, or that I'm on the same page with them, since we are all coming to basically the same conclusions involving some of this.

We do have a tendency to overlook the audience. The Jews are the Sons , the Kingdom had not been taken away from them yet. Remember Jesus Christ of Nazareth came to the Jew first and the Gospel is from the Jew.

I don't even remotely find it being reasonable that Matthew 13:37-43 is only involving the Jews up until 70 AD. I could never be a Preterist like that, since I would never be able to convince myself in a million years to understand and interpret a lot of these passages like many of you do. As to Matthew 13:37-43 then, clearly, by the time the end of this age comes, which is still future, maybe the Kingdom had not already been taken from the Jews when Jesus spoke those words, but that certainly wouldn't still be the case when the end of this age comes in the future. Why do some of you give the impression that Jesus was incapable of prophesying about any events beyond 70 AD and the first century?

I understand. Sorry, I just noticed I am in the eschatology forum. Partial Preterism would definatly not be welcome here. Thanks for engaging. Be blessed.

In Matt 8, He is speaking about the Jews who worship their religion and their place in it more than their GOD who stands before them. Even before Christ came, GOD separated the Jews into two peoples; HIS legitimate children and the illegitimate.
Deuteronomy 32:5 “They have corrupted themselves; They are not His children because of their blemish but a perverse and crooked generation.
    OR
their blemish is that they are not HIS children.

    World English Bible
They have dealt corruptly with him, [they are] not his children, [it is] their blemish. [They are] a perverse and crooked generation.

Heb 12:8 But if you are without discipline, of which they have all become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
repeats this separation carried on from Matt 8.

    But in
Matt 13:36-39, the parable of the weeds explained, that is, no more metaphor, HE is speaking of the whole world (not just one national group) and the separation of peoples: the good seeds are the elect people of the kingdom sown into the world by the Son of Man (planted, not created) and the weeds are the non-elect people of the evil one, sown into the world by the devil, (planted, not created as the devil cannot create).

This is not just a definition of a nation (the creation of GOD) being comprised of both believers and idolaters (as a type) but of the whole world separated into believers, ie the elect, and non-believers, the non-elect Satanic reprobate (the anti-type or final fulfilment of the type).

In both the national metaphor and the world fulfillment of the metaphor, the non-believers end in the outer darkness.

This is where you are wrong.

The Jews, as the builders of Old Testament Congregation, were the children of the Kingdom. And Yes, their kingdom representative has been taken away from them when Christ spoke it because of their rejection of the Messiah. Please read the Scripture:

    Luk 20:17-18
    (17) And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
    (18) Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

    Mat 21:42-45
    (42) Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
    (43) Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
    (44) And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
    (45) And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.

Yet you deny this has taken place?! I suggest that you read the Scripture carefully. The builders who have rejected the stone "ARE" the children of the kingdom, and they have lost the kingdom representative that Christ did give to the New Testament congregation - Christians, currently the builders of the New Testament Congregation.

    Eph 2:19-22
    (19) Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
    (20) And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
    (21) In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
    (22) In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

And yet you deny this has taken place too?! The Old Testament congregation fell at the Cross where Christ has REBUILT it in 3 days and this spiritual temple is NOW the New Testament Congregation where Gentiles are now the builders of this temple.

    Have you read this Scripture?
