From the article.
There have been no signs of a détente between the two parties so far. 'It's a chasm,' Pelosi said

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that Democratic leaders and White House officials remain far apart regarding any deal to provide more emergency aid to American families and workers still reeling from the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re miles apart,” Pelosi told MSNBC during an interview on Wednesday, citing, in particular, a stalemate over education funding, eviction protections and additional money for food stamps.

Negotiators are trying to bridge the divide between a $1 trillion aid package put forward by Senate Republicans at the end of July, and the $3 trillion legislation passed by House Democrats in May. The Trump administration rejected an offer by Pelosi last week to meet in the middle on a $2 trillion price tag.

Pelosi doesn't care about the People.

Pelosi is trying to get more help to the people whereas Mitch McConnell is fighting for liability protections for corporations.

Liability shield. McConnell’s bill includes a five-year “liability shield” aimed at preventing businesses, universities, schools and hospitals from being sued over coronavirus-related damages. McConnell has called the provision a “red line” in negotiations and insisted he would not sign a stimulus package without it.

A summary of the legislation circulated by McConnell’s office earlier this month said that under his proposal plaintiffs must prove both gross negligence and violation of state and local public health guidelines to successfully sue. The measure would also give federal courts jurisdiction over lawsuit claims related to the pandemic.

Congressional Democrats have attacked the liability shield and said it would likely give large employers the ability to escape damages from mistreating their workers and customers.

I love how Mnuchin's idea of compromise is "Take the package we offered with nothing you want added to it." That's not compromising. Pelosi offered a compromise by meeting halfway but the White House rejected it out of hand.

From what I've read, that obstinance is less Mnuchin and more Meadows. Mnuchin negotiated the first one and some Republicans complained that he gave in too much, so now the WH has sent Meadows along to babysit.

The Pelosi package is $3.2 trillion, she wants to compromise it down to $2 trillion.

How is $2 trillion a compromise when she has no plans on how to pay for it ?

If this wasn't an election year, a compromise would be reached.

As long is it drags on toward the election in November, Pelosi believes will give the Democrats leverage over the Republicans.

In other words, the Americans be damned !

She wanted $3.2, she's willing to settle for $2 trillion. It's a compromise on her end. Trump is just presenting a plan and saying take it or leave it. If he had been willing to discuss adding money to his plan or even suggesting ways to help pay for Nancy's original plan, that would be compromising. In a compromise both people move from their original starting positions and meet in the middle. Also while you are bringing it up, how is the HEALS act being funded? Especially since it is so heavily reliant on tax breaks.

It's not a compromise as $2 trillion is what she originally wanted anyway, as she said so months ago. She went for $3.2 knowing she wouldn't get it

Mnuchin has said all along that $2 trillion was too high. A compromise would've that both settled for $1.5 trillion, but Pelosi wants to push this out to the election so she can blame the Republicans for being heartless toward suffering Americans.

Did the Republicans offer $1.5 trillion? Even if she had proposed the 3.2 strictly as a bargaining ploy, which I'm not sure i believe, she did come down from it. The White House on the other hand has stayed at 1 trillion.

Actually, Mitch McConnell offered a $1.8 trillion dollar bill, but the Democrats blocked it.

House Speaker Pelosi unveils $2.5 trillion Democrat coronavirus stimulus plan as Senate bill stagnates

But Pelosi kept things in the bill that would cripple landlords and banks as they would not be able to foreclose or evict people for a year for not paying their rent or mortgages. Nothing about suspending the bills that the landlords will have to pay in that year.

The bottom line on all of this is, the US Government doesn't have the money to pay for this or the previous stimulus package. We're so far in debt that our grandkids grandkids will be paying for it.

Actually the Democrats are going to take the heat for no aid package for the American people.

Trump called them out on trying to be able to stuff ballot boxes with fraudulent votes by their inclusion of laws allowing them to do so. Lack of identification for voting. All kinds of stuff that has nothing to do with aide.

I don't see this working out for the Dems.

That was the CARES act which has already passed and been signed into law.

that is the truth. It is supposed to be a Covid relief bill and the spend spend spend Democratic Leadership approaches it like a teenager with dads Amex Platinum card.

How about addressing solely aid for which the package is designed for and actually propose bills for the ancillary projects instead of making it your list for Santa Clause.

It is policy over people with these power hungry politicians. Always has been.

Blame game in high gear as Covid relief talks stall

FYI, I generally don't trust Fox News, so look for other sources

Unfortunately, the MSM sources tend to lean to the left in their articles.

A "stimulus" stimulates economic activity.
During the Great Recession a few European countries initiated austerity. It didn't work. Here's why.
When a country is in recession their tax revenues go down drastically. Without taking positive action to stimulate the economy the lowered tax revenues might actually create a larger deficit than spending money in a targeted way and gaining more tax revenues.
If the money expended goes to people who will put it into the economy it will keep businesses open and employees working. Those businesses and employees will pay taxes. The economy will recover.
If the money expended goes to people who don't need it like the rich the stimulus will not have the desired effect. Economists say that it is more accurate to determine the danger of a deficit as a percentage of gross national product rather than in dollars and cents.
