I'm very, very biased. I wanted to become a Franciscan nun, but can't because of my bipolar disorder.

The Franciscans bring together four things that I love:
  1. Simplicity of lifestyle (poverty)
  2. Compassion for the poor
  3. Music
  4. Affinity for the natural world
Some Franciscans are very strong on Marianism, as was St Francis himself.

As someone who is involved with Cursillo, I believe in a well balanced Spirituality, and I believe you find that with the Franciscans.

Are you O.F.S yourself?
No. I was going to. But I tried it out on my own first, and found that I lacked the self discipline to pray the Hours on my own. For me to do something like that I would need the support of a community. I do pray continually during the day, but they are the sort of improvised prayers that I grew up praying my whole life.

I do think of myself as an unofficial nun of sorts. I expect to be celibate for the rest of my life. I live on $800/mo. LOL And all the work I do is of service to others. Presently I'm working as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor -- it's draining but incredibly meaningful. I volunteer at my parish office, and teach catechism. So life is very, very good.

Oh, and I almost forgot! I think chimpanzees should be taught monotheism and basic morality via sign language. :) I'm one step past preaching to birds. LOL

yep I would agree with that advice. I've been reading the vocation stories of three of our young men in the Diocese who are being ordained next Saturday. and for all three while the pathway was different for each one, they all wound up choosing the priesthood. So yes, I would say that discernment is definitely important.

Are you discerning a vocation Stabat?

Yes, but I still have a few more years of studies in front of me before I'm even qualified.

Thank you, I need the prayers.
I'm currently applying to continue on to masters from this fall, but I applied past the deadline so it's uncertain if I'm permitted.
They are aware of the reasons why I had to quite last year and that I applied so late because I had to finish treatment. I hope they find a way.

Again, thanks for prayers.

What does happen to a third order member if he becomes a priest?
Pope John Paul II was a Secular Order Carmelite :)

Praying for you as you discern your vocation :crossrc:
