Which GOP lawmakers have condemned Trump's tweet - CNNPolitics

Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) "Just because the so-called squad constantly insults and attacks the president isn't a reason to adopt their unacceptable tactics,"

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) "Instead of sharing how the Democratic Party's far-left, pro-socialist policies -- not to mention the hateful language some of their members have used towards law enforcement and Jews -- are wrong for the future of our nation, the President interjected with unacceptable personal attacks and racially offensive language, . . .No matter our political disagreements, aiming for the lowest common denominator will only divide our nation further."

Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) "I disagree strongly with many of the views and comments of some of the far-left members of the House Democratic Caucus -- especially when it comes to their views on socialism, their anti-Semitic rhetoric, and their negative comments about law enforcement -- but the President's tweet that some Members of Congress should go back to the 'places from which they came' was way over the line, and he should take that down."

Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) "That's not something I would say, and I think it's divisive, unnecessary and wrong."

Representative Will Hurd (R-TX) "I think those tweets are racist, and xenophobic, . . .They're also inaccurate. The four women he's referring to are actually citizens of the United States. Three of the four were born here. It's also behavior that's unbecoming of the leader of the free world. He should be talking about things that unite, not divide us."

Representative Pete Olsen (R-TX) "The Tweet President Trump posted over the weekend about fellow Members of Congress are not reflective of the values of the 1,000,000+ people in Texas 22. We are proud to be the most diverse Congressional district in America, . . .I urge our President immediately disavow his comments."

Representative Fred Upton (R-MI) "Frankly I'm appalled by the President's tweets, . . .There's no excuse. Inflammatory rhetoric from both sides of the aisle that is used to divide us just isn't right. It's not helpful."

Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) "President Trump was wrong to suggest that four left-wing congresswomen should go back to where they came from, . . .Three of the four were born in America and the citizenship of all four is as valid as mine. I couldn't disagree more with these congresswomen's views on immigration, socialism, national security, and virtually every policy issue. But they are entitled to their opinions, however misguided they may be. We should defeat their ideas on the merits, not on the basis of their ancestry."

Representative Paul Mitchell (R-MI) ".@RealDonaldTrump, we must be better than comments like these,. . .I share the political frustrations with some members of the other party, but these comments are beneath leaders."

Representative Susan Brooks (R-IN) "The President's remarks to my colleagues across the aisle are inappropriate and do not reflect American values,. . . ALL of our elected officials need to raise their level of civility in order to address the serious issues facing our country."

Representative Peter King (R-NY) "The tweets were inappropriate and wrong."

Representative John Katko (R-NY) "The President's tweets were wrong,. . . I have vehemently criticized lawmakers on the far-left when I disagree with the direction they want to take the country — but criticism should focus on policy."

Representative Mike Turner (R-OH) "I am confident that every Member of Congress is a committed American,. . . @realDonaldTrump's tweets from this weekend were racist and he should apologize. We must work as a country to rise above hate, not enable it."

Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) "There is no excuse for the president's spiteful comments -- they were absolutely unacceptable and this needs to stop,. . . We have enough challenges addressing the humanitarian crises both at our borders and around the world. Instead of digging deeper into the mud with personal, vindictive insults --we must demand a higher standard of decorum and decency."

Representative Elise Stefanik (R-NY) "While I strongly disagree with the tactics, policies, and rhetoric of the far-left socialist 'Squad,' the President's tweets were inappropriate, denigrating, and wrong. It is unacceptable to to tell legal U.S. citizens to go back to their home country,"

Representative Tom Cole (R-OK) "I am deeply disappointed in the president's comments directed toward fellow Americans and members of Congress,. . .Use of such language is inappropriate and demeans the office of the presidency."

Unlike Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), I think the comments should not be taken down. Those comments should be left up, with big red arrow pointing to them, for the whole nation/world to see what kind of person the GOP Reality Show Host actually is.

It’s good to see Republicans edge their toes from the line that President Trump has drawn.

I think Twitter should suspend the President’s accounts.
Absolutely. Stop those tweets. National security issue. Could start a war!!!!

I heard the Democrats are going to sign a resolution to officially condemn Trump's comments.

I think that would be foolish, it brings up party lines again. I’d sit back and see how many other Republicans take a belatedly decent position instead.

Both the tweets and the reaction to the tweets make them all look silly.
Seriously. They are tweets!
Racism is not only wrong, but also a serious level of sin. Only true repentance would allow one to escape the eternal consequences of it.

They are official government statements.

Indeed -- That Donald's dark-skinned political enemies should go back where they came from is an official government statement.

God Bless America.

They are official government statements. Racism coming from the Oval Office should not be laughed at, encouraged, or ignored. Those that act in this manner don't believe the targets of that racism matter and are complicit by their silence. It doesn't matter if you don't hold those beliefs, remaining silent suggests tacit approval as the perpetrator will continue this behavior.

Indeed. They are just tweets. Not like he's writing a simpleton's version of Mein Kampf 140 characters at a time. And that was just a "book".

At least he's not wearing a tan suit. That would be a bridge too far.

Who is laughing? Watching the President of the United States of America openly espouse the most virulent forms of racism is not something we should be laughing about.

I am not naive, I know we've had virulent racists in the Oval Office before, like Nixon etc. But we should NEVER find it amusing. We should be very, very upset.

Sometimes the words I am reading remind me of the fanaticism and mania of the Sparrows on Game of Thrones. No logic, reason, evidence... just a warped kind of McCarthyism that would have everyone and anyone walking naked down the street having poop thrown at them.
Just nutty.

If you don't like it, you can always go back to where you came from. If you don't like America's current attempts to stop racism in the general civic discourse perhaps you could find a country more to your liking somewhere else?
