Of course, if you're thinking globally, but that's just silly. Noah didn't even know the American continent existed, so I'm pretty sure he didn't cruise over to pick up some diamond back rattlers or grizzly bears. Course if you use your noggin and realize it was a local flood, two of every known animal in the region is much more understandable.

that's more like it:thumbsup:

The hebrew word 'erets doesn't necessarily mean the whole earth

The Genesis Flood: Why the Bible Says It Must be Local

*snip*

........The "whole earth" often refers to the people not geography
However, there are many more examples of where kol erets is used without reference to any specific land, although the context clearly indicates a local area.

For example, in Genesis 11 (the Tower of Babel) the text says, "the whole [kol] earth [erets] used the same language."6 We know that this reference is not really to the earth at all (and certainly not to the "whole earth"), but to the people of the earth, who all lived in one geographic location. It wasn't until later that God scattered the people over the face of the earth.6 There are many other examples of where kol erets actually refers to people rather than the geography of the "whole earth":...................

I watched a program on sky and it said that 90% of all animals and plants used across the world for farming originally came from the middle east. It claimed that the transition of man from hunter gatherer to civilised farmer, couldn't have happened without these animals and plants in the middle east. So if you think on the flood on those terms, there was no need for Noah to save all the animals and plants in the world, just the ones which would help create civilisation.

The program was called "in search of Eden" by David Rohl, an historian. It had really interesting information about the garden of Eden being a rich fertile valley surrounded by mountains, which biblical historians called the walled garden.

It never existed. At least not in a form described by a literal reading of Genesis.

When I'm talking about a literal reading of Genesis, I'm talking about the belief that there was a global flood and that the Earth is only 6,000 years old.

Ok, but how does that automatically lead to your assertion that the ark never existed? We don't have to believe the earth is 6000 years old, nor that the flood was global, to believe the flood actually happened and the ark literally existed.

:)

The ark story itself is likely a conglomeration of stories derived from the mythological history of the Jewish people. Even if you take a subset of animals only in the Middle East, the current biodiversity still raises many problems for the ark story.

Psst the Jewish people actually exist too, and they have a history. It's not mythology. Is this what you've come up with on your own or is this what ye ole Pontiff is actually teaching these days?

I'd rather not. In those discussions I find the "science" and general attitude of YECs and "theisitic" evolutionists to be equally deplorable. My stance is that I have no qualms with evolution except for universal common descent, which is just not reality. As for age of the earth, well the Scriptures don't come with hard and fast dates for many events so....who knows?

Pssst....the Jewish/Israelite people didn't exist until after Jacob/Israel came along :)

Genesis 29:8 And they say, `We are not able, till that all the droves be gathered together, and they have rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we have watered the flock.'
9 He is yet speaking with them, and Rachel hath come with the flock which her father hath, for she [is] shepherdess;
10 and it cometh to pass when Jacob hath seen Rachel, daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the flock of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob cometh nigh and rolleth the stone from off the mouth of the well, and watereth the flock of Laban his mother's brother.
[John 4:6-12]

John 4:6 Was yet there a spring of the Jacob. The then Jesus having wearied out of the journey, seated thus on the well. Hour was being sixth.
11 She saith unto him--Lord! not even a bucket, hast thou,--and the well is deep--Whence then hast thou the living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob who gave us the well,--and himself out of it drank, and his sons, and his flocks?
[Genesis 29:8-10]
