In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The term is Ex nihilo. When God said, "Let there be light", that was the energy that helped propel everything else... The God of the Bible, not the LDS god, is the uncaused one who has caused all of creation...

Hebrews 11:3 New King James Version (NKJV)
3 By faith we understand that worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Being righteous does not give a person omnipotent power...
OK, the worlds were framed. Is that the same as created the worlds from nothing?

"so that the things which are seen", what is seen when a world is created.
1) mountains, water, land, trees, etc., etc., etc.

"were not made of things which are visible", what makes things, but are invisible?
1) atoms, quarks, molecules, etc., etc., etc.

Can you destroy an atom? If you cannot destroy it, then you cannot make one either. Then the atom is also everlasting to everlasting.

Did God make the atom? Unknown.
Was the atom before God? Unkown.
Was God before the atom? Unkown.

All we do know is that God commands the atoms and they obey. Why do they obey? Because atoms respect God's holiness, his Godhood, his Word. And if he did create them, then that is another reason they might obey him. But, as all things that God created, they do not all obey, just because he is the creator.

An interesting discussion. Thank you.

Is the Greek words Ex nihilo written in the first verse of the bible?

Does it have to be? This is a terrible attempt to deny the creation story... Is the word theocracy in the Bible? Israel was under a Theocracy before Saul became king...

No one is denying the creation story. We know that man was created out of the dust of the earth. Therefore the word create does not mean that the universe was created out of nothing. If nothing existed in the beginning God could not have existed either. God is something.

(Old Testament | Genesis 1:27)

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
(Old Testament | Genesis 2:7)

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Are you saying that in the Greek it does not say, " and God created the heavens and the earth ex nihilo"?

I am not sure that scripture says that anywhere. It is likely Augustinian or Thomistic philosophy.
I have found that until approximately the second century, the church fathers wanted to crush the ancient Greek and Philo concepts of creation from existing material, and therefore came up with creation ex nihilo.

This position also gave their Christian God much more power than the pagan and Jewish God. So it stuck. But early Christian did not talk about the creation that way.

Yes, as the early church lost its Jewish identity, it wholeheartedly adopted Greek philosophy.
