This debate is just an attempt to understand what other cultures THINK/ FEEL on this matter.

Hello Everyone,

So, I am currently taking a history class and I wanted to hear the thoughts and the opinions of other races. So as we know, there is a lot of racial tension in the U.S. Minority groups feel victimized, black children are being killed on the street left and right, Native Americans are on the reservation with no water etc. Thus groups like Black lives Matters form.

On the other hand, when these groups form or when these minority groups vocalize their concerns many Caucasians become easily agitated, or offended. Many pretend it doesn't exist, or blame the victims of hate crimes . For example, when Dylan roof shot up that church and killed all those worshippers during prayer simply because they were of African American descent. I was livid when I heard that people had raised millions of dollars in his defense! ( I know that it wasn't from the black community)

My questions are: Where is the church? The church of Christ (irregardless of race)? Then where are the " Christian White People" ? Why isn't the Caucasian community in the streets marching (when their is an injustice or a killing of an INNOCENT person of color)?

I think if people truly respected EACHOTHER (both black and white), and if those in the white society would make a bold concerted effort to SHOW the love of Christ and understand the hurt or injustices faced by others. That DEMONSTRATION would, in itself help heal tension and prove that to the WORLD that the LOVE of CHRIST is GREATER than bigotry!

Do you think that this is one of the solutions to this madness?

They're out there but guess what? The media doesn't show the "good" side, they like to condone violence and negativity. This is a huge problem with the news today. Have you ever turned on any news channel and witness anything positive? Of course not. This is exactly why I don't watch the news. I can't stand the media. It's an evil, greedy empire and the CEO is Satan himself.

Another thing to mention is the "church" usually doesn't go around protesting anyway. Instead, we pray for those who are in need. Protesting and marching down the street does not compare to the almighty power of God and prayer. Protesters want to gain media attention while the church wants to gain God's attention.

Cooldude68,
I do agree with you that the news is horrible, bigoted, and sparks alot of racial tension.I also DONT watch it all.
But I disagree with u when u say the church should just pray...For example Christ DEMONSTRATED his love when he physically died, he DEMONSTRATED his love when he healed the sick, he DEMONSTRATED it when he SAVED the adultress women from being stoned to death.Words mean nothing ACTION means everything. And it was the Black churches and Black preachers who organized much of the civil rights movements, that sparked change. To me when the church or the white community does nothing, or worse DENIES the existence of the problem....It validifies the RACIST/HATRED argument and it further divides the Body of Christ!

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

I think there are some Christians out there marching, and I know many Christians and churches are praying. But I also see that the church throughout the ages has been very active in charity, hospitals, food banks, counseling, homeless shelters, and other activities to help the poor, the oppressed, the wounded and the lost, rather than in direct political activism.

As far as the political process and protesting, I think that many of the protests turn ugly and violent, driving some away, but also, this country has become so polarized that demonstrating support for one particular injustice with which one agrees may be interpreted as also supporting causes with which one is absolutely opposed (simply because of the Left-Right divide).

Personally, I'll sign petitions and write my political representatives about injustices and systemic failures, because I see that as the mechanism within the Constitution for trying to right wrongs politically.

Mainline churches were very involved supporting the Emanual AME church in Charleston after the shooting there (disturbingly, Dylan Roof was a nominal member of our denomination, the ELCA). Our churches do alot to address racism, but of course, we are not perfect. But I think our efforts are better than many churches that simply pretend that God's law is silent on racism and bigotry.

Research the history of white evangelical political activism some time. A great deal of the rise of the "religious right" has to do with white racial politics and resentments.

My question is: Why are some people so fixated on color? Fifty+ years ago a righteous minister stood behind a podium in the Washington mall and spoke of his dream for a day when people would be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. Let me know when folks want to start following Jesus' example and leave the race baiting identity politics in the trash heap where they belong.

I agree with all points in the thread so far. I agree with the OP that we should all want equality and justice, but on the other hand in my personal experiences and area there just arent these major problems that demand street protesting. Whites are not the majority where I live - we're an even blend of several races and get along fine. I have several black and hispanic friends and co-workers and I haven't seen anything racially related in my town happen to them or anyone. Florida is a very mixed state and I don't think in terms of color.

I agree with Cool Dude that the news tries as hard as it can to look to keeps as negatively charged as it can for ratings and effect. There are plenty of people, churches, and groups out there that do good every day and not reported on.

Thanks for the response,

Just for clarification purposes, when I say protest I dont mean neccessarily marching in the street.By protesting I mean....openly in whatever way possible ...whether its signing pettitions, writing letter to congress, or when seated in positions of power (like judges, police officers, the president) making stiff penalties for hate crimes to send a strong message to EVERYONE black, white, blue, and purple that this WONT be tolerated.

Jay W,
50 years ago that man stood up and against racism as a christian...and as a result of his beliefs in equuality he was gunned down. 50 years later innocent children/snd teenager are still being victimized and gunned down. For example, one teen was shot in the head by a white guy because he refused to turn his rap music down....shot in the head over some music. Just sayin I love Jesus do u love Jesus, okay we are cool is obviously not enough........

You say throw politics in the trash. Did Jesus overlook sin or did he confront it? Did Jesus overlook gambeling in the temple, or did he meet the gamblers outside his fathers house with fury? Did he approach the aristocratic Pharisees in his day and did he rebuke them? I can go on and on.Jesus didnt brush nothin under the carpet, he confronted and he REBUKED sin!

It may be an uncomfortable topic, but such topics should be addressed and there is no greater place than to address them but amongst the followers of Christ.

Even if the Caucasian community was/is in the streets marching, for any reason, that's not the church - it is not the ekklesia called and set apart by YHWH for Himself, born again by His Will (not by the will of the flesh, nor the will of man).
Do you think that this is one of the solutions to this madness?
No.
But I disagree with u when u say the church should just pray..
Correct - sort of - not "just pray", but pray first, pray always, pray without ceasing is required, as written throughout the New Testament.
Then as written, DO the FATHER'S WORD, what HE SAYS DO.
(always completely in line and perfect harmony with HIS WORD (SCRIPTURE).
My question is: Why are some people so fixated on color?
The veil is still over their mind/ eyes -- only YHWH can remove the veil. (concerning anything, especially spiritual life/ truth/ experiential knowledge, as clearly written in Scripture)

Let me know when folks want to start following Jesus' example and leave the race baiting identity politics in the trash heap where they belong.
Those "folks" are around, all over the world. Just not in the news.
(and not very many)

This (including mainly admitting/ identifying/ calling things "hate crimse") is a massive part of the corrupt system, not part of Christ Jesus and His People, nor part of YHWH'S INSTRUCTIONS on how to live and what to do.

White people are shot in the head over silly reasons too. We are all victims of crime and people being hateful. If I know for certainty there is a race related issue that is an injustice, I would get angry about it - but in many caes it is an injustice that isn't relevant to race, but to people being cruel with each other.

I'm not sure how writing to a senator would help with this since we already have the laws in place - we have the hate crime laws, the anti-discrimination laws, the justice system. People are already trying; hopefully one day we'll all get there.

No, I said throw race-baiting identity politics in the trash.

Do you want to know how to fight racism? By not engaging in it. Stop categorizing people as white people, black people, brown people, whatever people, and start seeing them as just people. There are a lot of folks in this nation who profit off perpetuating racial tensions. Stop feeding them.

Vote them out of office. November 8th was a good start.
Every time the people called by YHWH to be HIS voted in Scripture, they sinned and were punished.
He told the prophet(s)- do not be concerned - they have not rejected you, but have rejected ME(YHWH) from ruling over them.

Besides, it doesn't matter at all who is in any of the offices , except for a short time occassionally as YHWH plans/ orchestrates....
The "system" mentality is towards all the bad stuff mentioned so far.
The "system" of society is like it says in Ephesians, controlled overall by the prince of the power of the air.
Thus more great is the free salvation of YHWH in Yeshua, how much we find He saves us out of (the world system/ society/ evil and wickednesses) to Himself !

Wasn't justice meted out in the Dylan Roof case? Why would I want to demonstrate (and against whom?) before the criminal justice system does its job?

The only possible reason would be that I might want to stir racial tensions rather than calm things. That's what I read in the OP and it's just about the opposite of what I think a Christian ought to do.

Yup....and the majority of the people on the jury were........white.

Just because white folks don't go out in droves and protest/march, doesn't mean they don't care.
