thought about it since 71. I recall digging at a fallout shelter under the house.
Did not get serious until things began to go south a few years back. Economy, politics, middle east, etc etc.
I think the oldest Mylar Rice is dated 2012.

Early 80s when my dad first got interested in the survivalist movement (I was a young teen then ) I even got a letter published in "Shooter's Survival Guide" for any old timers that might remember that magazine.

It grew out of concern for the food supply in the US and having experienced a few blackouts. The grid for the US is vulnerable.

Shortly after reading "Christians will Go Through the Tribulation" by Jim Mckeever. Around 1978...
Shocker for me who grew up under the rapture myth.

Just a few years ago when I found out about and started researching the elite, illuminati, all that crazy stuff, is i think what kind of got my mind on the track of 'im not prepared, i should be'. Im 22 so I dont have a lot, but its more than almost anyone else i know

I began prepping in 1998-99 during the Y2K scare. Of course we all know it nothing ever came of it, but it was a legitimate scare. I’m glad we prepped and maintained our storehouse, because it kept us somewhat ready for any danger that was always before us. I live in a hurricane, tsunami zone, so being prepared all year long makes a ton of sense. It certainly gave me piece of mind all these years. We know it’s a matter of “when” and not “if”. Besides, prepping takes time to build reserves and get educated. I don't regret getting an earlier start.

Raised that way on a farm. Didn't even realize we were prepping, as we were just living and preparing.
If things would have went south , We wouldn't even have knew about it for a couple of weeks.
I am 46 years, I was raised this way and I have decided that I don't want to change my lifestyle one bit, I love it. :]

That is a fact. I think if everyone would give this lifestyle a chance, they would be hooked.
It's Little things like feeding a bottle calf, Watching some chickens scratch, pulling a fresh tomato off the vine etc: that makes one see much meaning in life. I wish more children could experience this. :]
