Many Jews have Ebonite beliefs.

"Adoptionism is possibly the oldest Christian heresy, dating from the compilation of the first New Testament Gospels. Its roots lie in Ebionite Christianity, a very early Jewish-Christian sect which accepted Jesus as the Messiah-but rejected his divinity. Ebonite’s and Adoptionists believed that Christ was not born the Son of God but instead ‘adopted’ by him at his baptism in the River Jordan, because God judged him the most righteous man on earth and thus fit to be his son. The basis for this belief lay in the Gospel of Mark, the first of the Gospels to be written down and the earliest versions of the Gospel of Luke." 10 Ancient and Medieval Christian Heresies the Catholic Church Tried to Stamp Out

Is this a problem in the Messianic churches? I am hoping it was bypassed for the Trinity.

Hi Ken, what is the division and what is the solution? thanks, daniel
The division is over our beliefs. We serve the same Lord, we believe in the same core message, but divide, generally, over things are more important to us than they probably are to God. The solution? Understanding that being of "one mind and one accord" does NOT mean we all have to look, think, and act alike. Instead, it is knowing that it means despite our differences, we can still work together to the glory of God's namesake and Kingdom.

History: 2 orthodox and 1 chassidic rabbi were the founders of the modern day MJ movement. We will start with the orthodox rabbi Isaac Lichtenstein in the Transylvania area of Rumania. He came to faith in Yeshua as Messiah and Son of God in the 1880s. His own congregation followed him in that belief. Upon his death just prior to WW1, he wrote to the Jewish community of Europe (he was rather well known) explaining his beliefs and many Jews came to faith.

About the same time there was a Chassidic rabbi in Moscow named Joseph Rabinowitz. He came to faith also in the 1880s and started Messianic Chassidic synagogues in Russia and Ukraine.

In the 1890s, an orthodox rabbi from Hungary named Leopold Cohn started researching the claims that Jesus was Messiah. He then came to the US, found his faith and started an outreach to the Jews in New York City. That was 125 years ago and today his organization is called Chosen People Ministries.

Were there any one who claimed to be Messianic that was anti-semtic?
What is the full story of those persons? I am assuming they were pretend Messianic.

That depends on how one defines anti-semitic. There are some groups (rather fringe) that like to claim that the church replaced the Jewish people and that these "Messianic Jews' have the true expression of faith. In other words, the Jewish people are not the real Jews, but these people are the real Jews. To me this is anti-semitic, but not a classic definition.

Again, it depends on the Messianic Congregation, and even more in the person. There are some congregations teaching non-Trinitrian Christianity, but they tend to lean more towards Oneness or Arianism. But there are individual believers that are more along the lines of Adoptionism, probably some small isolated congregations too.

Overall though, the biggest groups, the MJAA and UMJC are very much Trinitarian. But even in these Trinitrian congregations I am sure you would find people that are Oneness or Adoptionists. But then, the truth is that many (most?) average people in any given church would have a difficult time explaining the Trinity, most end up at Modalism or semi-Arianism without realizing it.
