What's your favorite Bible passage and why?

Mine has to be Matthew 6:31-34. I memorized it.

It teaches us not to worry about petty little things...
Mine is: I know now, that according to his will, I can do all things through Christ who strengthened me. Philippians 4:13, because of his will on earth.

These are a few that I really like
This verse shows The Word is alive. I use the word "quick" as part of a sermon I wrote.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

These verses shows how emotional and passionate Jesus was at times
John 11:35 Jesus wept.
Luke 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 3:16 really got me into things concerning my faith. But my first interest really came from hearing about the armor of God. I thought that was the coolest when I was a little kid.

As for favorite passages, there are MANY, of course, but Psalm 103 and Psalm 139 are always at the top of my list, so Psalm 139 it is for tonight. Psalm 139 speaks of our transcendent Creator who is, at the same time, immanent, an ever-present loving Father who cares deeply for His children and always watches over us/sees to our well-being .. e.g. Romans 8:28, and Who knows everything about us, far more than we could ever hope to ourselves .. e.g. Luke 12:6-7.

PSALM 139
God’s Omnipresence and Omniscience.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

1 O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
You understand my thought from afar.
3 You scrutinize my path and my lying down,
And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before there is a word on my tongue,
Behold, O LORD, You know it all.
5 You have enclosed me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is too high, I cannot attain to it.

7 Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
9 If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me,
And the light around me will be night,”
12 Even the darkness is not dark to You,
And the night is as bright as the day.
Darkness and light are alike to You.

13 For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
15 My aframe was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;
16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand.
When I awake, I am still with You.

19 O that You would slay the wicked, O God;
Depart from me, therefore, men of bloodshed.
20 For they speak against You wickedly,
And Your enemies btake Your name in vain.
21 Do I not hate those who hate You, O LORD?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?
22 I hate them with the utmost hatred;
They have become my enemies.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.

Psalms 139:6 was always a special one to me too. I'm glad you posted that.

While I had mentioned Hebrews 4:12 earlier, I wanted to explain an aspect that I thought you may find quite interesting as it was a sermon, (actually it was a bible study) I did, I will do my best to paraphrase it here.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The King James Version translates the word "quick" in the first part of the verse. The word has several meanings. It can mean fast, swift, intelligent, and endowed with life. All of these definitions apply. As life is but a vapor, very brief, and the word of God being our intelligent source of wisdom and instruction. And also living (living is the original Greek, here seen in the word zao G2198)
"The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, .." (see John 1:14).
"In the beginning" was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
"in the beginning" is one word in Hebrew (reshith 7225), while it is three in English.
It is notable to point out that "God said let 'us' make man in 'our' image". Us and our are plural nouns. As is the usage of the word God in Genesis 1:1 (the very beginning), as God here is "Elohim" (430), which is a plural singularity.
Numbers are Strong's concordance reference numbers. G# being Greek, # being Hebrew.

Ephesians 2: 4-5,8-10
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
5 MADE US ALIVE with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions
—it is by grace (unmerited Love/Mercy/favor) you have been saved.
8 For by GRACE (Love/Mercy) you have been SAVED through FAITH;
and that (FAITH/BELIEF) not of yourselves,
it is the (spiritual) GIFT of God;
9 NOT as a result of WORKS, so that no one may boast.
10 For we are His workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

A perfect explanation of SALVATION from eternal spiritual separation from God.

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives IN me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up FOR me.

1 Peter 3:18
For Christ also died FOR sins ONCE FOR ALL,
the just (JESUS) for the unjust, (MAN)
so that He might bring us to God, (RECONCILIATION!)
having been put to death in the flesh,(CRUCIFIXION) but made alive in the spirit;(RESURRECTION, APPEARANCES, ASCENSION)

Sounds like "substitutional atonement" to me.

2 Cor. 5:21 ...IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin ON OUR BEHALF, so that we might become the righteousness of God IN Him.

As of today (it will probably change tomorrow):
Paul in Hebrews 12:22-24 said:
You HAVE COME to:
  1. Mount Zion, the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem
  2. Innumerable angels in festal gathering
  3. The assembly of the firstborn, who are enrolled in heaven
  4. God, the judge of all
  5. The spirits of the righteous made perfect
  6. Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant
  7. The sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel

Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

I think that these verses get at the core of Christianity in describing what our salvation looks like and what and what things Messiah gave himself to accomplish.

Many favorite verses, but just go with this one since the devil and even many believers today hate it:
For there are Three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these Three are One.

What:
1 Peter 1:8
"Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:"

Why:
That feeling of "joy unspeakable and full of glory" really expresses how one can feel when the spirit touches you.

We don't hate it. It is true, despite it's having likely been added by a medieval monk.

I apologize as many believe it to be added at that time period, but some true believers do not like it neither. By the way Cyprian quote this verse in it entirely in 250AD.

Matthew 21:21 And Jesus answered them, "Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' it will happen.
22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith."

Reminds me of the great optimism and ambition prayer gives me.
