  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"What's the Point of Prayer?"

I thought this was cool, I found it in a Soul Fuel student Plan-it devotional orginizer.
... What's the Point of Prayer?

1. pick a number from 1 to 9

2. subtract 5 from that number.

3. Multiply that answer by 3.

4. Multiply that number by itself (remember if you
multiply two negative numbers, your answer will be positive)

5. Add the digits so you have one digit. For example 12=1+2=3

6. If that digit is less than 5, add 5. Otherwise, subtract 4.

7. Multiply that number by 2.

8. Subtract 6 from that number.

9. Map the digit to a letter in the alphabet where 1=A, 2=B, 3=C, 4=D...

10. Pick a name of a country that begins with that letter.

11. Think of an animal that begins with the second letter in the country name. Think of the color of that animal. (now scroll down to the bottom and be amazed).
This isn't like a chain letter either, just cool.

"You have a gray elephant from Denmark, right?
If you did the math correctly, your answer on step 8 was 4. Denmark is the most reconizable country whose English name starts with "D", and most people think of gray when they think of elephants. While your answer may have been different, this exercise demonstrates what many people think prayer is all about. God knows what we need. He not only knows what we're going to say, he knows the answer he's going to give. So why bother? Why do we have to go through the whole formula when God already knows what we want and need? Prayer would be a waste of time if it were about getting what we want. While that happens sometimes, it's not the reason for praying. Prayer helps us build a relationship with GOD. It is an opportunity for us to communicate to God, to hear him, to remember our dependance on him, and to reveal our hearts to him. Of course God knows what we're going to pray, but he still wants us to pray it. God wants us to open up to him so we can have an intimate relationship together."
