What's the deal with saints?

Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?

Luke 11:1-2 (KJV)
1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. 2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, . . .

In Jesus' example, His prayer is addressed to the Father not a saint.

By the way, Catholics don't pray to the saints expecting that the saint will grant their request, they pray that the saint will intercede with God on their behalf.

Now is this praying to dead saints scriptural?

Consider Isaiah:

19 When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
The Holy Bible : New International Version (Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1996, c1984). Is 8:19-20.

Jesus warned us several times not to be deceived. Most Catholics have been deceived thru watered down teachings and rituals, but not all of them, some do know the truth. I think it is Satan that is Guilty of trying to divide the church. Thats why I refuse to be labeled anything other than Christian. I don't go to church. I am part of the church body. I go fellowship and worship.rollinTHUNDER

Hi there rollin thunder!!!

I agree that there are many churches who are just decieved when it comes to the teaching of Jesus but i also agree with sos that you could find a church in which you can grow especially with the fellowship of other believers as well.

Peace

Hi SOS and Blackwing,
Sorry about the misunderstanding. I didn't mean that I didn't go to church, To worship. But rather, I don't go to church, because I am part of the church. As in, the church is not a building, but rather, the body of Christ. The Church, is ALL true believers in Christ from all around this world. In Heaven, I don't think we will find denominations or divisions..rollinTHUNDER

rollinTHUNDER >>> It seems like I can relate to you more & more. I haven't been in a church, accept for a wedding or a funeral for about 10 years. Our local fellowship broke up [our "pastor" decided to go to seminary]; and I knew then that the "church" walls were coming down. Although, I thought it would happen sooner than this, but it's still coming. You, we are receiving fellowship here in a big way.

But, I also relate to the rest of you, in that being close to several brothers & sisters on a regular basis is priceless!

You know, some were told to go to the desert. I feel that this is where I am, so that it's just me and Him, in a way. Not a bad thing.

Hello again Truthseeker,
Don't be so hard on yourself. Life is much tougher when you don't fellowship with other believers. About 9 yrs ago, we lost our Pastor to retirement. We went 2 yrs without one, only using transent Preachers. Most Churches might have packed it in, and thrown in the towel, but not this group. We really held up rather well-we were all surprised. Our love held us together. Lots of prayer, Church suppers and fellowship were the glue. When it was all said and done, we were victorious, Satan lost as usual, and we, as a Church Body, were MUCH STRONGER. We have grown so much, that we are now re-building again for the second time since, to keep up with all the new members. Never Give Up - Persevere!!!!!>>> rollinTHUNDER

Truthseeker I've been there. It's one of those phases we go through. If you have a "seeking the face of the Lord" attitude he will show you the way he wants you to go. He will probably bring you back to a church. I have found that birds of a feather flock together and you will find other folks that you feel comfortable with and will again be part of building each other up.....you are doing that right here and I for one like your imput.
