What exactly is it, and would it be considered schismatic?
We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today?

Basically, apologetics is defending the faith

Not at all! Actually, the Bible states:

"Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence." (1 Peter 3:15)

Apologetics is the explanation and defense of the Faith. I'm sure there are more eloquent definitions of it, but that is a basic idea of what it is.

Apparently MikeM cross-posted with me. His answer is good!

Apologetics is simply clear, concise explanations for the hows & whys of the Catholic Faith. This is a evangelical tool for bringing folks into the Church & explaining any & all questions that have been drilled in their heads ie: whore of Babylon, why pray to saints & Mary,is Mary=to CHRIST(just so u know,um NO!) etc...So yeah its basically an evangelical handbook/toolbox for Catholics doing the "Great Commission".
