  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think it is derived from "Christ mass." Sort of like Michaelmas is "Michael's Mass."

In my language it's called "Joulu", the English equivalent for the word would be "Yule". The word has no references to Christ, so there haven't ever been any debate over what it should be called. Everyone, Christians included, happily agree that it's called Joulu.

Thank you ancestors for picking such a neutral word and saving me the annoyance of one debate over what to call something!

Had a really vividly creepy dream last night. .....

Sorry, just felt like I had to get that out, you know?
That sounds like a very vivid and scary dream. I am always fascinated hearing other peoples' dreams though; I think it is interesting. I have been having a lot of weird, very realistic dreams lately too.

That is very interesting! One of the few Finnish words that I sort of learned from my Finnish side of the family was "Joulupukki". I didn't realize "Joulu" was derived from "Yule", though I should have known that, since it sounds similar to "Yule". It sort of just clicked now after you mentioned that, lol. :sorry:

I was so excited for my friend's letter tonight, but it didn't come. Oh well, the anticipation can build, and it will be even better when it does come :)

Thanks, Miss Quieted. :) I admit, it also did not help that the sky was perpetually a light but somehow dingy, ominous blue every time I was outside in the dream - like a treacherous storm was coming or the sky was simply darkening at a time it should not just to underscore the tension and fear of the situation. ^_^

Even though the last time I was even in my grandparents' house was three Christmases ago (they are both deceased now, so there is no real reason to return, I guess), I spent so much time there as a child that I guess it's an intimate enough part of my memory that at least 50% of my dreams take place inside that house or outside in the yards or in the middle of the culdesac. Whether those dreams are good, bad, or nonsensical.

That must have added to the creepy feeling in the dreams! I actually love when I see colors in dreams though, so that is neat you remember it well enough to describe that. :)

I think that is very interesting how you have so many dreams surrounding your grandparents place. I think that often times our memories like that really do play a major part into our dreams. :)

Same here.... I'm gonna head to bed, good night all!
Aw, I missed you! Hope you have a goodnight! :)

Last night, I awoke in the middle of the night, but my mind was still in a dream, before I fully became conscious, as I was awaking I still saw the last glimpse of my dream like it was reality. I saw a face which looked similar like this from Lord of the Rings

It was actually quite frightening because it felt like it was real for a second and right in front of me.
