Do you happen to know there is a early Christian text which talks about Phoenix as if it was a real creature? I was so fascinated when I found out about it.

If I had taken more tattoos, Phoenix would have been my next one. It's a symbol for many things too.

You might find this interesting, it's written about one generation after the Apostles, to the same Corinthian church Paul wrote his letters. The Phoenix stuff starts at 25:2, about middle of the page:

About them being real, I don't know about that in literal sense, but I like to think that some fairytale creatures might be symbols for stuff inside our heads, or they might have been forms nature spirits can take. Spirits might appear in forms of some creatures. Let's just say I've experienced enough to learn to not make too hasty conclusions about many things not being true just because I haven't met them.
