Care to elaborate what that definition of godliness is?

If reading the Quran at the library is more godly than reading it at home that would suggest my godliness is external would it not? Unless the reading of the Quran is sinful, it is no more or less sinful if I read it on wikipedia or from my book shelf.

I believe it is the motive of a man's heart that determines if something is profitable or perhaps sinful, like with Jesus and the pharisees. What if I want to be all things to all men? To the Jew I am like a Jew, yet I am not under the law.

So what if I want to be able to share Christ with a Muslim. If she comes to my home, and I have read the Quran and studied what Muslims believe, and we can look at it together for example- is this godly? Now what if I am ignorant of her believes (despite Muslims being the dominant religion globally) and customs? What if I ask her to come for tea at prayer hour? What if I don't know she does not eat pork?

If I worked with a woman I wanted to show Christ to, and she was a Wiccan- I would study up on the principles of Wicca. Then I would spend time with her both to show her Christ through my life and to be able to speak to her when I felt prompted to.

1 Cor 9 19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

There is delighting in evil and there is being knowledgeable about where people are, those lost souls without Christ.
  2. Aibrean

    Aibrean Honest. Maybe too Honest.

You asked me about owning, not reading, and not about ones godliness. To own something that is from the devil isn't godly (I.e from God). You don't need to possess it to read it. Why would there be such a desire to own? Keeping it ones house is just bringing in the devil IMHO.

I am no longer discussing this. Unsubscribing.

That is probably the worst way for you to get rid of it. You will be putting it where others can read it and be deceived by it. There are times when books must be destroyed to keep them from harming others.
Also many of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices. And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.

You responded to them correctly by being respectful. I personally know nothing of the mormon faith so I cannot judge, all I can say is the true faith is in your belief in lord JESUS CHRIST unto GOD the heavenly father.
In accordance with the scriptures we are to pray for enemies and do good to those how wrong us.....are we to do no less to our loved ones or those who are not our enemies?

.........and in turn who do we seek for answers? In whom shall we put our trust?

Any genuine christian should know the answer to this!

Praise be to GOD the heavenly father and his son lord JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>

I think you did the right thing.

You reacted in a friendly and Christian manner and they left feeling blessed by knowing and have met you. Even if we disagree with doctrine, we can still be friendly to each other and open minded.

I would not be swayed by the book left but there is nothing wrong with study and reading for yourself. With things such as that most of the time the faith you already have is cemented.

When I was a kid we did have mormons come and visit once. My mother and aunt were there and talked to them. They were curious about what was said and my mother, who is very liberal and not with any clear direction on religion, wanted to try it. My aunt follows along with almost everything my mother would suggest, or at least used to.

This changed when the men came home, of course. My dad and uncle (his brother) were raised Baptist and never wanted to switch denominations ever, even though they don't attend church as an adult. They refused so nothing ever came of it. My mom just told me my dad is close minded but I am happy that they reacted the way they did in this situation. Usually my dad lets my mom make all the decisions but he didnt in this case.

I have lots of Mormon friends. I guess that makes sense, since I am a Mormon!

When deciding what to do with the Book of Mormon, Paul's counsel is worth noting:
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (1 Thes. 5:21)

Seeing how Mormonism is a false cult, and they dont bring you the truth regarding who Jesus is, then I would not pray with them, or wish them well.
Seeing they are under God's curse for preaching a different gospel, If you do, then you may end up sharing their fate.

I 100% disagree with the notion that having this book is a bad idea (evil, ungodly, etc). I have no problem with having a book like that in my home because I don't believe there is anything inherently evil about objects, but in particular this book. If I wanted to know how to approach and talk to Mormon's, then I'd read the book. If that meant it's sitting in my home for a day, or a year, then so be it.

Was listening to a guy chat about this Mormon book one time. Can't recall the name sorry. Anyways apparently some of these Mormons tell you to read the book, then meditate or pray about it, then you feel this burning in your bosom. And that's how you know it's real.

The lecturer was a Christian expert in Mormon theology and reckoned, that he had experienced the burning himself and recognized after much prayer and research with ex Mormons who had given their lives to Christ, to be demonic activity.

I live in a very Catholic place, peeps are always giving me icons and things. My wife allows them into the house sometimes as she's still clinging to the last threads of her Catholic faith. Anyways when I find them they go into the bin.

If are "not" grounded in historic biblical Christianity you should steer clear of Momonism. I was born and have lived most of my life in Utah "The Mecca of Mormonism" and I've had many Mormon friends. They for the most part are good regular folks but they have bought into the deception of Joseph Smith. You'll find the Mormon community to hold to family values, working to earn an honest wage and good clean living but at the end of the day you would be worshipping a different Jesus. "The spiritual brother of Lucifer". Most Mormons don't tend to think their theology through. Others don't either know or really don't care to know. And then there are those that know but will twist it to sound good. And that's the problem. Mormonism uses a lot of the same terms as biblical Christianity and you can be fooled if you don't know the full meaning behind the terms they are using. You can find anything Mormonism has to offer as far as family values, community and clean living in any good bible believing church without buying into all of the false doctrines.

I actually know a lot about it... too much.
Next time you see them, show them these, JESUS'S, GOD'S words (for they all contradict them):

"Do not kill" (Joseph Smith killed people, when running from U.S. military)
As well as, "Do violence to NO man" Luke 3:14, John the baptist's words before he baptizes Jesus in the river: same reasons about Joseph Smith.

"Jesus answered and said onto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,

I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
Jesus's, God's words, Matthew 22:29-32 (They believe in polygamous celestial marriage in heaven, with multiple wives, on the planet Kolab where they can then populate these planets as gods).

    ---repeated in Mark---

"And Jesus answering them said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

And as touching on the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke unto him, saying, I AM the God of Abraham, and the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err."
Jesus's, God's words, Mark 12:24-27 (There is NO marriage in heaven, no Kolab, no populating planets, no celestial polygamy)

    ---repeated in Luke---

"And Jesus said unto them, the children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

But they shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:

Neither can they die anymore: for they are equal onto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the ressurection.

Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

For He is not God of the dead, but of the living:for all live unto Him."
    Jesus's, God's words, Luke 20: 34-38
(NO celestial marriage, no Kolab, no populating planets as gods)

"And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." Jesus's, God's words, Matthew 23:12

"Neither be ye called masters, for ONE is your master, Christ."
    Jesus's, God's words, Matthew 23:10

JESUS IS THE TOP AUTHORITY. He states "Follow Me" 23 times.

"But from the beginning of the creation God man them male and female.

    For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;

And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder."
    Jesus's, God's words, Mark 10:6-9
(Their Brigham Young had 43 or so wives, Joseph Smith maybe 50 or 30, can't recall the exact numbers, all their people had dozens of wives)

'Before Abraham was, I AM" -Jesus's, God's words, John 8:58
"I and my father are ONE."
Jesus is God! (They don't think He is God, maybe why they disobey His laws? But the oldest Christian art made before the gospels were completed, found in a Jewish Catacomb, states in its inscription "God has Risen! God has Risen!" Meaning, JESUS IS GOD and HE RESSURECTED, His body, the spirit NEVER dies!)
"For those who do not follow me, are not worthy of Me."
"If you love me, you will follow My commandments."

"12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I AM the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
JESUS'S, God's words, John 8:12 (They think women have to be let into heaven by their husbands, who then become 'saints' and give them 'permission')
Also show them Anna the prophetess Luke 2:36-38 , John 8:1-11, ALL come unto Jesus, God) There is nothing like this said by Jesus, God!

"The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it."
    Jesus's, God's words, Luke 16:16

(There are no other prophets after the book of John! Joseph Smith is not a prophet, nor are their 'latter day saints' holding power and revelations -Brigham Young 50 person polygamist!!)

"But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."
Jesus's, God's words Mark 13:32. (Joseph Smith claimed to know the exact date, in the mid 1850's that Jesus would come to North America, that he 'received a revelation' this, of course, did not happen)

Also show them Cain was marked by a SPOT, not the entire body, the mormons claim Cain was marked by his entire body, making them think the African Americans and Native Americans are marked with Cain.
Also, they think people will "become lighter skinned" over time as 'purification.' Interview: Edward Blum, Author of 'The Color of Christ' : NPR

""For Mormons, one's body existed before in a pre-life state, and it'll exist after our lives — our literal bodies will — and so when Joseph Smith looked around him and saw Native Americans, when he saw black Americans, when he saw white Americans — the revelation told him the lighter the skin, the more blessed one and the less sinful one was in the past. And he actually thought that societies would lighten. So the more Native Americans, for instance, would join the church and be good Latter-day Saints, they would actually lighten over time as part of becoming more sacred. But the curse of those [of] African-American descent is intense. Brigham Young, for instance, would say that if a white man was caught having a sexual relationship with a woman with any African descent, he should be executed, perhaps even beheaded on the spot. So while Native Americans could be redeemed more with time, Africans-Americans, people with African descent, were seen really as the ultimate other.""

Show this that Jesus NEVER spoke about this, and this is wrong about the story in Genesis. Indeed, Jesus could have been darker skinned (warmer climate, melanin in the skin).

Jesus, who is God, even stated, "Judge not according to the appearance," John 7:24

Show them the Christian Roman Catacombs, this shows early Christian art from Jesus's, God in the flesh's, time on earth as a theophany to 313 A.D. Early Christian Symbols of the Ancient Church from the Catacombs (They do think it all happened in North America, but this would HAVE to convince them to see the truth)

    Show them this:

Orante (Orans) as an Early Christian Symbol of the Ancient Church

(They pray with their arms crossed, but this is OPPOSITE of how early Christians worshiped Jesus, God, which was in many ways, with their arms OPEN)

Their whole book is a book written by Joseph Smith, it has completely different people in a completely different place, and just by reading a slight bit of it, you could tell he was desperately trying to copy the gospels, as it doesn't "sound" right and a copy. I suppose this is where they talk about Kolab, populating other planets, ect....

So, I'd show them all this. This is what I can think of at the moment!
They'll HAVE to rethink their views then, with all this evidence. :liturgy:

These people are taught that most mainstream Christians are unhappy and they all know they are going to hell, and that's why people slam doors in their faces. So every time you do this, you are reinforcing what they were taught.

One thing they believe is that when we die, we will be given one more chance at the gates of heaven to choose Christ, and only if we turn Him down then will we go to hell.

    We are not taught this.
Nor are we taught nor do we believe that Christians "know they are going to hell"
    The reasons vary
How can it reinforce what is not taught to begin with?
That kind of comes close to what we believe, sort of.

I'd also point out their is almost no archeological evidence pointing to anything in the BOM about these ancient Isrealis moving to the americas. Yes, their is some evidence of maybe some Venetian cross trading from centuries ago and some other odd artifacts but nothing to prove the BOM.

Then the idea of these golden tablets and these magic glasses supposedly Joseph Smith had are very off the wall and their is nothing like it in the Bible.

From my research, Smith either stole the book from someone else or made it up based on similar faiths, all with their own golden tablets, that were common back then.

Finally I do admire their commitment to morals, family, and hard work but if they ask me I'm going to have to tell them I dont believe a word of their faith.

Mormons believe some strange ideas. You can't usually get them to talk about most things however, as they tend to clam up; when they know, that you know.

I think they believe in this idea were you can actually become God. Defecation if memory serves. In fact God was once a man too and if you do everything the LDS tells you, you can be the god of your own planet someday.
This obviously leads to a logical contradiction resulting in a kind of infinite regress of gods.
Also the women get to be eternally pregnant (doesn't that sound like fun ladies) producing new little potential gods to go out and take over the universe.

If you like spending all day in agreements get out your bible and start urging doctrine.

If you want to make them go away and look like a nice guy doing it talk about the holy spirit and invite them inside to pray for thier ministry and so they so they can receive it. That is a great thing and it especially makes the Jehovas disappear as well faster than anything if they dont want to convert. You be nice, evangelise and dont spend all day arguing over doctrinal differences. I often try leave them wondering if there is something more that just that book (and a chance at eternal life for works) they carry around.

I live in an area with lots of mormons, actually have some next door. But I've never had any come to my door, actually have more doorknocking from JWs than mormons.

You got to speak to your husband about this, that it's not on to invite wolves in sheeps clothing into your home bringing another gospel and if he's the head of your house what was he thinking letting you deal with them?! That's cowardly behaviour and he ought to be convicted of this if he's a Christian! (sorry..I don't mean by choking him, although I sympathise -let the Holy Spirit work on him)

It is not ridiculous to not want to have a book of mormon in your home. Actually in the book of Acts they had a book burning of occult books and the book of mormon is as occult as they come. So if throwing away is not an option, you can always burn it. -See Acts 19:1-22

You don't have to accept everything anybody gives you - and I find that too with people trying to give me 'free gifts' with strings attached its how many people get into drugs, they just get offered and they don't want to say no because of being polite but this is a spiritual battle you can't go on accepting what the enemy gives you like Eve did just because it makes you seem wise or cool.

It is good that you read the Bible everyday but caution you don't make a huge deal of it, I dont want to assume that your husband was bragging about you reading the Bible because he thought you were smarter than him or somehow gave him that idea but hoping read you read it because you love His Word!

Oh by the way..please don't donate books like these to the library. There will probably already be a copy of it. Save a poor librarian the trouble, don't treat them like a rubbish dump. There are christian librarians too you know.

No, seriously, just either say politely, I am already a Christian, thanks for coming by, or if you really really feel God has put it in your heart to convert them, then ask them for their bible, and tell them to come back a month or two later when you have read the thing, and then you would like to have a "little" discussion with them.
