It's a great hymn and the words really sum up the Christian faith very well. I remember playing it in church. It's a difficult one to play due to the chromatic chord changes!

I enjoy a variety - classical (Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy); Jazz (Monk, Coltrane and a lot of 70 Fusion like Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever); Rock (70s prog, U2). But I also find Gregorian Chant to be enormously soothing and beautiful. It also has a great ability to align my mood to worship.

Hi Skittles - welcome to the forum!
I agree with you, choral music, especially chant, is so soothing and peaceful. I went to stay with the brothers in a Franciscan Community where they sang evening prayer and compline in plainchant. So beautiful and it helped me to quieten myself when in prayer.

I love this song which also has an English version. It's sung to the tune of Calon Lân.

    I’d not ask a life that’s easy,
Gold and pearls so little mean,
Rather seek a heart that’s joyful,
Heart that’s honest, heart that’s clean.
Heart that’s clean and filled with virtue
    Fairer far than lilies white,
Only pure hearts praise God truly,
Praise him all the day and night

I have never heard that one before'Anthony'. The words are very aspirational. I like it a lot!

You are the King of Glory
You are the Prince of Peace
You are the Lord of heaven and earth
    You're the Son of righteousness
    Angels bow down before You
    Worship and adore for
You have the words of eternal life
You are Jesus Christ the Lord
Hosanna to the Son of David
Hosanna to the King of Kings
    Glory in the highest heaven
    For Jesus the Messiah reigns!

Fairest Lord Jesus, Lord of all creation
Jesus of God and man the Son
You will I cherish, You will I honour
You are my soul'’s delight and crown
Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands
Robed in the verdure and bloom of spring
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer
He makes the saddest heart to sing
Fair is the moonlight, fairer still the sunshine
Fair is the shimmering starry sky
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines clearer
Than all the heav’enly host on high
All fairest beauty, heavenly and earthly
Wond’rously Jesus in you is found
None can be nearer, fairer or dearer
Than You my Saviour to me bound

Haven't heard that in years..... don't mean to grumble on here, but it is difficult for me to enjoy or like the newer songs when there are songs like this. Very beautiful...

There are variations of the text, depending on which arrangement of the hymn is sung.
I love listening to some of the new songs, but tend to revert to the old hymns, especially those which are theologically rich and Christocentric. I love some of the traditional melodies to the songs, and have a fondness for the old celtic tunes as they are so beautiful.

I felt this year I needed to have a bit more practice in playing for worship - so a belated birthday treat to me from myself! Received this evening by the nice Amazon delivery driver. A beautiful hardback book and the words and music are printed very clearly. It also opens out quite widely, so no need to worry about the booking slamming itself shut while I am playing! There's plenty of songs in there to keep me busy for a number of years!
