My favourite musical instruments, apart from the piano, are the cello and the oboe.

One of my favourite contemporary pieces of music is "Benedictus" by Karl Jenkins. This is a beautiful version on the cello - performed by the very talented 2Cellos in concert.

Exceptionally magnificent!

There are many versions of "When I Survey" by Isaac Watts. The most popular tune is Rockingham, but this one is based on the old folk tune "The Water is Wide".

I can almost hear the water of life flowing,as I listen to these wonderful, lifegiving words!

We used to sing this beautiful version in 1970"s at Mattersey Bible School. It brought tears to my eyes then as it does now

Well, through the years, I have used music both broadly (Christian and secular) and specifically over long stretches and considering as it pertains to this thread, , the older I get and the more insight into music’s true spiritual accompaniment the Lord grants, this is what I seem to be drawn to.

From the start, lyrics have impressed me with way they can influence as well as mislead or at least fall-short, most always seen in secular contributions. But I don’t think I was getting the point as I now do. This has to do with the influence of unity.

Around here, that is a radius of thirty-miles, we do showcase a number of large middle-age congregations, but there are still a strong showing of churches who return to the hymns of old and usually a spattering of newer spirituals, these are enjoyable at work or solo project time, but any more, on my own, I just want to stick to making instrumental melody with nothing else and let lyrical numbers greet to augment that Spirit of unity when I participate with my Church family at the House of God.

I seem to be enriched.

Such enrichment from music and lyrics. So inspiring! So nourishing! God bless all our musicians here.

I came across this song recently and have added it to my MP3 library. I played it again today and especially feel today that the whole world needs to make this their prayer.

Yes! God have mercy! Hear our prayer!

Listening to this hymn today and making it my prayer as I face the week ahead.

Breathe on me, breath of God,
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.

Breathe on me, breath of God,
Until my heart is pure,
Until with Thee I will one will,
To do and to endure.

Breathe on me, breath of God,
Blend all my soul with Thine,
Until this earthly part of me
Glows with Thy fire divine.

Breathe on me, breath of God,
So shall I never die,
But live with Thee the perfect life
Of Thine eternity.

There are two tunes I know to this hymn. The first is Carlisle and another is Trentham.
