Wait Until Dark (1967). The movie itself doesn't scare me, but that scene when Alan Arkin suddenly jumps into the scene, knife in hand, and grabs Audrey Hepburn by the ankles......it gets me every time. To this day, after all the times I've watched this movie, that scene still makes me jump.

Great movie.

Oh Poltergeist freaked me out too. When I watch it now, I realize how cheesy it is. Still, when you're that young, it can definitely have an effect. Also, there was the scene in Superman 3 when the computer draw that woman into itself. I was a bit older when I saw it on TV, but Halloween 3 scared me as well.

I remembered one that freaked me out as a kid...
The Tingler (1959) Vincent Price, Judith Evelyn, Darryl Hickman, and Patricia Cutts
Price stars as a doctor who discovers a parasite that grows on the spinal cord of terrified people. If they scream it dies, but if they don't it severs the spinal column; he isolates it only to have it escape in a theater.

Chucky: Child's Play, I saw it when I was about four because I woke up a little after 4am and my parents were watching it (we're all early risers). I just saw a bit, but from what I saw I was horrified of this living doll (scene where mom puts chucky in bed with boy and he climbs out). To this day I still have a fear of clowns and dolls.

i know a few people who are afraid of clowns. its not funny.

Imagine the following being sung by Elvis Costello:

Oh my girl loves surprises
So I bought a pair of tickets
And we went to see the greatest show on earth
Where everybody comes to have a really good time
Underneath the big top
Oh she seemed so delighted with the lions and the tigers
And the men on the flying trapeze
Oh, but when the clowns come around
She clinches her fists
She looks as if she's catching a disease

Chorus

Baby hates clowns and the tricks they do
Baby hates clowns in their great big shoes
Baby hates clowns with their polka dot clothes
Baby hates clowns with their big red nose
Now I get a little nervous every time that the circus comes to town
I don't know why baby hates clowns

Well, I gingerly suggested she was over-caffeinated
Or perhaps she had a simple case of nerves
She said as she glared at me with eyes like knives
You got a lot to learn, boy
So, I quickly dropped the subject like a flaming hot potato
But it didn't bring her any relief
Oh and it's so hard to pretend everything is just swell
When she's muttering and grinding her teeth

Chorus

Baby hates clowns with their stubby cigars
Baby hates clowns in their little toy cars
Baby hates clowns when they tumble and they flip
Baby hates clowns with their painted on lips
Now it's no exaggeration and there's not an explanation I have found
I don't know why baby hates clowns

Bridge

She gets so traumatized
And I feel paralyzed
In the midst of her psycho drama
I don't know what to do
It's such a mystery
All this hostility
I tell her she should lighten up
But all she does is tighten up and come unglued

My girl loves surprises but I never realized
She was vexed with a complicated mind
And I'm not sure whether it's a colorful quirk or some flavor of dementia
How I wish I could say there was a moral to the story
Something cute about venting her angst
Oh, but let the truth be known, I'm in the twilight zone
Some guy dressed up like bozo gets the thanks

Chorus

Baby hates clowns, it's truly bizarre
Baby hates clowns, just the way they are
Baby hates clowns, man it's making me nuts
Baby hates clowns, she hates their guts

Now I get a little nervous every time that the circus
I get a little nervous every time that the circus
Get a little nervous every time the circus comes to town
I don't know why baby hates clowns

I'm only 21 so I'd go with Arachnophobia and Signs.

I only watched the first ten minutes of Arachnophobia and when the spider crawled into the sheets and bit the guy, well, lets just say that I didn't sleep for about three nights. I kept imagining that a spider was crawling into my blankets and it was freaking terrifying!

Signs is my all time least favorite movie though. What is worse than aliens you can't see? Even now, I make my husband cuddle with me and I have to have all the windows shut and shades covering the window. If I think I see something moving I have to turn on all the lights. I actually started crying when my sister was watching it the other day at my mom's.

The end of Cat's Eye scarred me for life. My sister rented it when I was 4 and I wanted to watch it because I loved kitties. That troll scared me so bad. I still have a paranoia about letting the covers of my bed hang off the sides because of that stupid troll.

Night of the living dead. Dunno why really. Zombies are like the least dangerous monsters out there yet they always gives me the creeps to this day.

Fright Night was another one but mostly due to the horrible teeth on the vampires :p

Akira(anime) always gave me the creeps as a kid but mostly due to the graphics. Were like 8 at the time so didn't understand anything of the story or dialoge.

Normaly didn't watch alot of horror movies as a kid.

Haha! Jaws kept me from swimming in pools! ^_^

I started taking showers instead of baths shortly after seeing Jaws, I also recall going to the beach sometime later and seeing there were not many people in the water. I did not go in the water. Nope.

I did eventually get over the fear and even had a toy shark I would take into the tub (I started takng baths again), the shark would eat my Star Wars action figures...that was fun!
