I was wondering when/if Chandler would say something. I'm glad he did.

Controversy over doctrine is one thing and should never come into consideration by the people of God unless it is absolute heresy.

Controversy over the actions of a very famous preacher is another thing altogether. He not only should be called out but forced to resign. To keep on in the spotlight after bringing the name of Christ into the mud is nothing short of arrogance and self aggrandizing behavior. It honestly doesn't matter whether the allegations are true or false. If a well known preacher becomes the focus then Satan has won the day. It isn't about this preacher or that one but about the person and work of Christ. When we take precedence over the Gospel of the free and sovereign grace of God in Christ alone then we have erred and Christ is not honored. We need not be concerned with our own name but with His.

Not everyone is American on this site, s why should I do the hard work for something I have no knowledge of nor any inclination to want to know by myself. It is up to you to inform those who don't know as to why you have created this.

The only thing mentioned in the article was some stuff he posted on a message board quite a long time ago, which he has since acknowledged was wrong and repented of...

There must be more to this than the article specifically mentions, but I haven't been following the situation at all. What has he done that caused the group to disassociate themselves from him?

He has been a constant source of controversy from his foul language to his book on marriage that is full of sex and which he paid a firm to ensure it made the best seller list. He is quite well known in the US and seems to court attention.

I don't see why. What they are they doing that is illegal?

In regards to the OP, I thought Barnabas Piper had a very charitable post about Driscoll. I think grace for him is needed for him to understand his failings just as we all need grace to understand ours. Like Barnabas, I've seen Driscoll speak in person and read much of what he wrote. I agree with much of it, but I could also see some tendencies that would suggest some of this was going on underneath. My wife actually could not finish his book about marriage and sexuality. She found it very uncomfortable at some points. I planned to read it as well, but soured on it after her report.

For Driscoll it goes much further than message board postings and even the ResultSource scandal. He has former staff members coming out of the woodwork to share abusive experiences and he tends to sound more like an abusive CEO rather than a man of God leading a church.

Some of the hate directed towards him is not deserved, but I think it's time for him to step back for a while for healing and restoration as a goal.

I think, more importantly, that this sheds some light on some of the issues with megachurches. I have nothing against them personally, but there was a definitely accountability issue at play here where most of Driscoll's oversight board were pastors at other churches not directly involved with Mars Hill. The church is dwindling as Driscoll's reputation is withering, and that's not a good thing. The church should be about Christ, and not about any personality.

With that said, I definitely don't think that Driscoll wasn't used by God to bring people to salvation, and I hope folks will remember that. I see a lot of blog posts and commentary by folks he never hurt or even met.

if you're not going to hold them accountable then why is Driscoll being held accountable? Seems a little hypocritical if you ask me. Not defending Driscoll, because I find them both to be at fault.

ResultSource is a secular company that is in the business of inflating book sales.

That is like asking why a male prostitute is not held to the same standard as a head pastor....

Not sure what I think of the article. I really really feel bad for MD. What is happening with him could happen to anyone in his position. Not making excuses for him. Just hope God will turn this thing around for his church and his family. Driscoll never came across as humble to me - I think The Lord is going to use this to teach him humility. I hope any way...
