Religion is certainly a human creation. The ideals behind Christianity are not. Follow the ideals. Follow Jesus and his Word. If you don't like the religion, that's fine. A religion won't save anyone. Only the grace of God will save someone.

Psa 101:3 I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.

Phil 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things."

While there are some secular things that may fit the above description, the vast majority of music, television, cinema we have today most certainly does not. The scriptures set a high standard for what we see with our eyes and hear with our ears, but unfortunately most Christians don’t even try to reach it. If you need an example, look how many pastors and elders watch the filth on the “evangelical news network” (Fox News) as part of their every day routine. Such a disappointment...

They had a relationship with God which they spoiled.
It was God who started sacrificial worship, notice that when Cain and Abel sacrificed to God, there was no rebuke about their making a sacrifice, only a rebuke to Cain for a wrong sacrifice and a wrong attitude.

The O T is basically a repeat of this and modern worship continues to repeat this error.

That's not "religion" the way Paul (1 Timothy 5:4) and James (James 1:26-27) understood it. Christianity is different from other religions in that we have the substitutionary atonement of Christ and a relationship with God, but it is still a religion. We still have worship, we still have prayer, we still have faith, we still have obedience. It's not a "do this in order to earn your way into Heaven" motivation, but it's still religious.
