What is the Holy Spirit, and how does it relate to other spirit?

That is, what makes it holy? What is holy about it?

We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today?

God The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Holy Trinity of God the Father, and God the Son.
there is also a human trinity made up of human body, human soul, and human spirit,
and a satanic trinity as well. those are the 'other spirits' who are opposed to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

A spirit is like an abstraction of an idea being manifested through us to be expressed in the world. Like if you were on a football team who was down by some points and one of your teammates said "Come on, all we need is a touchdown, and onside recovery, another touchdown, and onside recovery, and a field goal and we're back in this thing!" and you say "That's the spirit!"

So if a guy says "I'm going to break something" you say "That's the spirit, of anger!" If a guy says "I hate it when my girlfriend goes out without me" you say "That's the spirit, of jealousy!" or when a guy says "I'm going to go into that scary looking place" you say "That's the spirit, of courage!" "I'm going to get lots of money to acquire worldly possessions" "That's the spirit, of the world!" "I'm going to falsely accuse someone of doing wrong" "That's the spirit, of devils!" "I'm afraid" "That's the spirit, of fear!"

So when someone says, "I'm going to visit someone who needs comforting" you say "That's the Holy Spirit!" or if they say "I'm going to do my best to forgive others" you say "That's the Holy Spirit!" or if they say "I'm going to unconditionally love everyone" you say "That's the Holy Spirit!" or if they say "It sure looks bad, but I'm going to hope it all turns out for the best" you say "That's the Holy Spirit!" "I'm going to try to get understanding" "That's the Holy Spirit!" "I'm going to be truthful" "That's the Holy Spirit!" etc.

God is love, God is spirit, any spirit which comes of love, is of the Holy Spirit. Anyone speaking by this is speaking by the Holy Spirit, anyone working by this is working by the Holy Spirit, anyone guided by this is guided by the Holy Spirit aka the Spirit of Truth.

The Holy Spirit is The Spirit of God / Spirit of Christ / Spirit of Truth & Spirit of Life. He / It is given by measure to all living things. The Gift of the Holy Spirit is a secondary outpouring of Spirit upon those who 'believe and are baptised' and / or those who believe Christ's Word and ask The Father for Him.

He is also The Comforter, given to enable us to be able to endure this life's travail, and our Teacher so that we may know all things God wills for us.

    *************************

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. <---> John 4:24 (Words of Christ)

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) <---> John 7:38+39 (Words of Christ)

If ye love me, keep my commandments.
    And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. <---> John 14:15-17 (Words of Christ)

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. <---> John 16:23 (Words of Christ)

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. <---> Acts 2:38

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? <---> Luke 11:9-13 (Words of Christ)

    ***************************

All other spirits are subordimate to God's Spirit, and while some may rebel and disobey, they can only go as far as God allows, and He can rebuke and / or 'reel them in' at any time.

    ***************************

And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. <---> Hebrews 1:7

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. <---> Revelation 12:7-9

And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him. <---> Mark 1:27

And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; <---> Mark 6:7

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. <---> Revelation 20:1-3

"... any spirit which comes of love." I guess that must be read as "true love," given the way the term "love" is thrown around? A lot of things are CALLED LOVE which upon closer looking are NOT in conformity with Holy Spirit truth.

In other words, the statement quoted here is at best inadequate to tell us how to identify THE Holy Spirit.
Many outright perversions are claimed to be love, to involve love. And I think the word is rather correctly used - we must distinguish the TRUE from other types of "loving." How do you do that?

Thanks for the quotes. This last one here is NOT John 16:23.

It seems to indicate a person, not only some (merely airy fairy?) spirit. Someone who hears.
Would this be the Second Coming, Christ of Holy Spirit Father God?

I'd like to know the difference between holy spirit and animated energy or force that makes all things living or alive.

Seems to be pretty much the same question as my question.

In "Holy Spirit" the "holy" must mean something. And pretty much it is to indicate an element of God, a "person" of the Trinity, is it not? But how does it operate?

I think it has nothing to do with or very little to do with LIFE, with "making alive" or "being alive."

On the one hand there is life, animals are alive, and on the other there is what drives that life in particular directions, which would seem rather like MOTIVATION.

And presumably what drives life in the direction of God or in conformity with godliness is the Holy Spirit.

Both the Hebrew word and the Greek word for "spirit" means/translates to the English word "breath". So there is the possibility that the Holy Spirit that Lord Jesus sent was the "Holy Breath" of His Father that is in Heaven and not actually a spirit as we generally think of as a spirit, a conscious entity with an energy body. Why is it Holy? If one considers the Father of Lord Jesus the Holiest of Holy, then His Breath would be considered Holy. And it would seem that the "Breath" of the Father can interact with us as well as move over the surface of the Deep as it did to begin the processes of creation that resulted in the physical world. How does the Holy Breath relate to other spirits? It doesn't relate in the sense of your question because it is something totally different.

The Biblical word "spirit" has many meanings. In a dictionary you'd see spirit[1], spirit[2], etc. If you want to torment students of the Bible, just ask them to write an essay on the Biblical meaning of the word "spirit."

Holy Spirit is "easy" by comparison. Reflect on each of the verses that have Holy Spirit in them! (Enclosed as an attachment for your convenience.) Note that there are verses that refer to the Holy Spirit with other words/phrases. However, you can find plenty of info by Googling for topical studies about the Holy Spirit.

When God breathed the breath of life into Adam/Eve, He gave them spirit. This qualified them as literal images of God. Thus, Adam was called son of God - the only human other than Christ to hold that title so far.

When Adam sinned, their spirit DIED - that is the consequence for sin. Their bodies also began the natural process of death - decay.

When those before Christ died, they "slept," and didn't resurrect because the spirit of Adam died, and he and Eve had children AFTER imperfection. So, their children did not have the "spirit" inherited to them. When they died, they died.

The Holy Spirit is an "ON LOAN" living spirit from God, a consequence of Christ's sacrifice and God''s will. It allows us to be convicted without law, and instructs us without law. Note: I did not say do not follow the law, I said the Holy Spirit convicts without the need for written law. This is a direct consequence of the new covenant God made: that His word and law will be written on the hearts of men so that they wouldn't have their neighbor, "do you know God?"

Those who are deemed worthy will be resurrected with a new body and spirit of their own.

It belongs to God/Christ. It is a gift of Providence - a comforting divine protector, mentor and communicator for imperfect beings seeking fellowship with the Most High. It puts you into communion with Christ, and the Most High.

In reply to your "got from," 1. This is nothing about "Holy Spirit," "Comforter," etc. etc..
    God the Father CREATING time.
    2. I appreciate your changing the subject to abortion, so I'll respond by saying it seems "the way the Bible has it," God breathed into Adam, and he became a person, a living soul.
PROVES THE LIFE OF A HUMAN BEING BEGINS AT BIRTH (From which we measure the length of the life of a person.) "Clay" is only a human being when God gives it breath, when it first has breath.

The living energy of life one presumes is real, whatever it is. Perhaps no more than chemicals, certainly some seem to believe that of a mechanistic universe. We know how to take life, yet not how to create it from non-life.

    On the other hand, "holy spirit" seems to be a more difficult to apprehend "entity";
Holy Spirit seems to be some kind of God guide, yet how do we identify it?
Where does it come from, where is it found?

The Holy Spirit has character or personality attributes such as..."Love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control;"

Demons, which are also disembodied spirits which manifest other types of 'personality' traits.
"spirit of jealousy, spirit of judgment, spirit of timidity, spirit of the world, spirit of stupor, spirit of slavery.." ect. ect. These are all attributes which lead to death. Not instantly mind you, and maybe not even physically....but soulishly. These are the things which make one a 'dying soul' vs a 'living soul' as were Adam and Eve when they "walked with God in the SPIRIT of the day" in the Garden. And they did so until they quit 'walking in the spirit' with God and listened to the 'spirit of lies' and sinned .

These are character attributes a person may possess - perhaps we attribute them to being led by the Holy Spirit.
Does the Holy Spirit itself (whatever that means) love or experience joy? I rather doubt that is a very good way to view things. A person can be those things, a person can be godly.
