I got a really bad diagnosis from an oncologist, he is talking a year. Now I've been a Christian since my teens, so death is a one way ticket home when you think about it. So I started thinking about something I really had not thought of before. What is heaven like?

Harps, clouds, angels, loved ones, streets of gold, songs of salvation. I realized I had no idea, I was wondering what others might think. I've heard the beyond and back stories, floating above your body, seeing a light, being greeted by loved ones who went before.

Are we aware of what goes on back here? Can we visit others after death, just briefly before moving on? Does absent from the bidy present with the Lord mean we can have heart to hearts with the Lord? Can we meet the saints, are we assigned duties, or just wait patiently?

I'm not going to take anyone to task, surely you've wondeted. It's ok, feel free to speculate a little.

BTW, don't make a big deal over the poll, it's just some idle thoughts.

    Grace and peace,
    Mark

I certainly hope Heaven isn't just sitting on a cloud, playing a harp all day. That's all I have to say on the matter.

Prayers, Mark. God be with you, friend. Please keep us updated, ok?

For me, the closest I can get to Heaven on earth is a beautiful cathedral. I imagine that spiritually, Heaven will be very much like that. A beautiful place, with one another, in the presence of God.

I'd imagine that after death, before the resurrection, I would enter into a state of consummated contemplation of glory. Yeah, in a state of perfect contemplation of Christ with perfect joy. I don't think I ever thought it as a place you "walk" around, or do anything else. The body sleeps in the dust, the soul enters into the higher experience of what we taste right now. Then we are resurrected with a renewed body that has no bias toward sin, but all the more bias toward inexpressible joy in the contemplation of Christ on the new earth - which I do see as a place you do things attending to the glory of God.

I keep saying contemplation, because I cannot imagine anything better.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis :( Prayers your way.

I had a vision of heaven twice. One time I was filled with peace and love, the other time Jesus appeared in a white light and I sensed an advanced angelic-like civilization well beyond earth. It was holy and pure (clean from sin).

I've stood at the grave of relatives taken before birth, and my father who had all his family leave and him the oldest of his siblings.
Heaven is the ultimate fulfillment of your life. 93 years or 93 minutes, God is preparing us for our destiny. Have faith.

Being in the constant Light and Glory of our Risen and Glorified Christ! That’s the unspeakable Joy awaiting. Absent from this body present with the Lord with the knowledge we will be raised like Him. Praise be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! In the presence of Christ our Victorious King.

The Scene of Heaven in Revelation. Where we will sing:

“HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THEALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME.”

“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”

“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, beblessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”

“Great and marvelous are Your works,
    O Lord God, the Almighty;
Righteous and true are Your ways,
    King of the nations!

4“Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name?
    For You alone are holy;
For ALL THE NATIONS WILL COME AND WORSHIP BEFORE YOU,
FOR YOUR RIGHTEOUS ACTS HAVE BEEN REVEALED.”

“Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

    A View of God’s Glory by C. H. Spurgeon

    Exodus 33: NASB

17The LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing of which you have spoken; for you have found favor in My sight and I have known you by name.” 18Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!” 19And He said, “I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.” 20But He said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” 21Then the LORD said, “Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock;22and it will come about, while My glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by. 23“Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.”

There's a resource I like to consult, near-death experiences, where people write stories of visions that sometimes happen with severe accidents, some of these involving a visit to realms of spirit. There's a good deal written about near-death experiences and the nature of the afterlife they point to, but the individual accounts in databases are the best source of information when researching NDE's (and its fun to look for specific things in accounts and see if anyone's experienced it (or at least been allowed to and come back from it. NDE's, as only showing brief glimpses of personal revelation to the experiencer, can't be said for each case-by-case basis to be the extent of what would be to come )).

It would be hard for anyone to say with certainty what this realm, place, or dimension is like in its entirety, even near-death experiencers themselves, because Heaven is just so vast and varied, and every experience is unique and personal to the person. If anything can sum up a near-death experience, what ever the content is, every experience seems to be described by the experiencer as "ineffable" or not capable of being expressed adequately in words. There of course is a great fellowship in Heaven, but at the same time everyone gets each's own unique (eccentric :p) something to their own destiny.

We serve a mighty, powerful God and I will keep you in my prayers. I live in the mountains of far northern California. It is so beautiful here that I am in awe of it every day. I know that Heaven will surpass even this. It's beyond my imagination. I know there will be a glorious reunion of believers there. I don't know about visiting those we have left behind, but there won't be any sadness if we can't.

I will pray for you. May God comfort and protect you and your family during this time of illness and bring you healing.

As to your question, I suspect I would be so in awe of the more direct Presence of God, that I would scarcely notice anything else. I hope that I find other members of my family and friends there.

I have watched so many videos on near death experiences. Obviously some seem more credible than others. The very best ones, imo, have medical documentation to back up that they truly were dead. And, of those, the best, imo, was with Dean Braxton.

Braxton is very well documented as having had no heart beat and no respiration in the ER at a hospital, for 1 3/4 hours! In a CBN vid that tells his story, you can see his emergency care doctor saying, "He was really, really dead" and that "It is a miracle...a miracle" that Braxton is now alive and well in every way.

In that same CBN vid you can see a little of what Braxton saw in Heaven, including the Savior. His book In Heaven gives a lot more details. Also his vid with the Prophecy Club (which I am not really a fan of, but Braxton talks to people all over the world) gives tons of details about Heaven, including that pets and many other animals are there. He always gives Scriptural backup for what he saw, including about the animals.

I pray you will be healed and that we will meet in Heaven one day. It sounds like a blast! :)

P.S. Just read your post again and saw where you asked if the departed can be near us down here. Per Braxton and others, yes. He even saw the Savior sending some saints, from the Bible, to earth to help with people being led to salvation.
He never says to pray to them, just that they do try to help us on earth.

P.P.S. Though Braxon said there was every imaginable kind of animal in Heaven, guess which one he saw in the greatest numbers? Horses. In fact he said he was amazed at how many there were. He also said he was surprised to see any animals at all in Heaven as he had been taught in his religion that they just die and that's the end of it.

He said many of his theological boxes were broken but that, again, when he searched the Scriptures he never saw a conflict, but confirmation.

I hope you will have little pain but of course the reward will be great. All heartache will be finished. A joyous place to be next to the Savior. I don't think we will have any memory or be aware of anything here.
You are one of the memorable Christians here. Thank you.
    Blessings.
Pray for all of us left behind and maybe we will finally meet face to face some day:)

I have always imagined God as Light, the best I can describe it would be one of those big searchlights you see at Movie Premiers.

But Brighter, then I imagine every Child of God bringing his light, the light of our each one of our candles to become one with His Glorious Light, becoming One with Him as we are In Christ and Christ is in God.

What a day that will be
When my Jesus I shall see
When I look upon His face
the One who saved me by His grace
When He takes me by the hand
And leads me to the Promise Land
What a day, glorious day that will be.
