What is better: to be rich or to live by faith (Hab 2:4; Rom 1:17; Gal 3:11; Heb 10:38) (Part 1)?

• “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?” (Mat 6:25-30).

Most of the people, even those who believe in Jesus, look on being very blissful those who can weigh in their hands great amount of money. In addition, many of them seek in Jesus getting more and more mammon so that they can pay off the bills and realize their dreams.

At first place: by any chance does add up to ask Jesus mammon? Recollect that we can’t serve two Lords (Mat 6:24).

Furthermore, does Jesus need of mammon to support us? Can’t the God that nurtured the great nation of Israel in the desert for 40 years without money or commerce (buying and selling) shore us up and supply at the same way?

But this isn’t all: did you think on how problematic is the excess of money?

• “The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: *but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep*.” (Ecc 5:12).

I know that this sounds weird. So much so that, most of the Christians believe that the great boon of the Creator for Israel in the Old Testament was Canaan.

However, think: in Canaan they had to fight many wars (and until today they have to). In the desert, however, they didn’t need to unsettle:

• with enemies (nobody desired to live in the desert);
• in brushing the teeth;
• with problems of health (except when they sinned);
• with balanced diet, etc.

The manna that the Creator imparted to them supplied all their needs without any side-effect.

It is suffice to see that Moses, being 120 years old, was able to command Israel (Num 31:1,2), he didn’t get blind, his vigor doesn’t fallen (Deut 34:7).

The only thing that the Israelites needed to do was stay in communion with the Creator and each other, hearing His voice, praising, worshipping and abiding by His commandments.

So, mull over all this and have a good day living by faith, and not by money. Tomorrow we will carry on.
