Nicodemus who we read about in John 3, came to Jesus at night, are we told anywhere if he became a follower of Jesus?

He helped to take Jesus' body down from the cross and had spices to anoint him, John 19:39-40.

All believers are saints. The term means "sanctified ones" and applies to all Christians.

I think this tradition is more related to the faith being evident.

Wouldn't Christians who have fallen asleep in the body and are present with the Lord then be saints in heaven? They're still God's holy ones, yes? So they're still saints.

Well, from an OSAS perspective, maybe. The more historic traditions carry with them an underlying belief in making one's calling and election certain. The elect hold a special place in these belief systems, and in scripture as well. They are especially honored, according to one of those underlying beliefs, that to even speak negatively of one of God's elect carries with it unfortunate consequences.
