This thread is inspired by some who say that others accuse them of "hating America" because they disagree. Here is an opportunity to show what you think America should look like.

To start, I personally would like a government that rewards work (this would require them getting their fiscal house in order), and acts more like an umpire, instead of trying to influence outcomes.

Ideally or realistically?

Do you want a wish list? Or do you want the bare minimum of expectations?

Probably the bare minimum. I think about different things all the time, but get stumped when I go to post.
The country is such a mess, it's like the general, when surrounded, told his troops: "gentlemen we have been afforded a unique opportunity- we can now attack from any direction "

I'd like to see all the damage done to America's democratic norms done by Newt Grenwich reversed.

Ok...

Uhhh...bare minimum...

I suppose if the left wins, the bare minimum would be the same political stalemate without a clear majority and the increasing obstruction of their policies. Essentially, 4 years of little happening.

If the right wins....it's a very similar picture...but the main difference would be Trump using the executive apparatus to pursue political opponents in the legislative chambers for crimes. I'd actually see this as a positive, though it would likely scare people, there's nothing to fear. Corruption has festered too long....we all almost tacitly accept the idea they're insider trading (a crime Martha Stewart did prison time for) and they spend far too much time enriching themselves and their donors than the people they serve. I don't expect such a thing to be done for some noble intentions like weeding out corruption...but the effect of some empty seats and prison sentences should cause politicians to reconsider their loyalties and oaths.

I strongly suspect the result will be unpleasant for most no matter what.

I would like to see us showing leadership in world affairs again. Would like to see us start dealing with climate change and looking at strategies to minimize the damage. I would like us working to improve mental health and how it exacerbates problems like homelessness and gun violence. I would like to see realistic strategies to ensuring everyone who wants to work can.

Just a few off the top of my head.

Ty.

Fiscal responsibility seems to be his main platform. I don't disagree. I don't entirely agree either but he's more right than wrong.

Eh...good on him for saying it. Obama ran on shutting down Gitmo and his voice being one of the few against war in the middle east. His record on those issues is different once he was in the hot seat.

There's a difference between the ideals of a politician and the pragmatic realities of the situation once they actually have power and information.

I have memories of how America seemed to me from going way back.

Easy going, generous and friendly, Ellis island, building of liberty ships, to the background of Chattanooga choo choo and In the mood.

But without a doubt will never be the same again.

Though you never know, the time of miracles is not past.

I would like us to have genuine, non-biased freedom of the press. Many of our citizens are misinformed due to disinformation fed to us daily by corporate media. If we were more familiar with the issues. we would be more equipped to vote wiser. Example, Science has proven again and again that watching Fox News makes you dumber than not watching any news at all. Conservative outlets like Fox News and Newsmax TV are the worst, but corporate influence has made the pretty much all U.S. press a corrupt and troubled institution. They deal in a lot of manipulation, mythmaking, and self-interes and little to no informing the public.

First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Let's get back to corporations and the wealthy paying their share of taxes and stop redistributing middle-class tax dollars to the top.
Reverse Reaganomics and his right-wing precepts. Let's not forget the detrimental effects of Ronald Reagan's policies and right-wing principles over the last 45 years. The late 1960s and 70s were when we were closest to being the America we aspired to be. With his divisive tactics, trickle-down economics, neoliberalism, and third-world rollback doctrine, Reagan steered us in a different direction. We're still grappling with the consequences of his actions.

Return to checks and balances. Don't remove government regulators to concentrate power to one branch of government like project 2025 propose to do.

Here's a few with the goal to raise money, cut spending and create efficiency.
+ helps the budget, - hurts the budget * budget neutral or unknown

* Bush's proposal to shift some of social security into equities (after the next crash though)
* Transparent health care pricing. Let each health care provider set prices that are then published and unadjusted except for once or twice a year. No deals based on volume or any status except medicare/medicaid gets 20% off.
* The accreditation revoked from any college that allows a hostile environment towards any group of students.
- A foreign policy and military buildup that discourages bad actors from doing anything. (Like Reagan but too late?)
+ Personal property taxes assessed on technology companies data that is collected from people. (a state issue)
* Campaign finance reform. If nothing else tax all campaign donations right off the top and use that tax money to finance less funded primary candidates from at least 3 parties.
* Removal of the dual mandate of unemployment and inflation from the Federal Reserve to a single two percent inflation target.
+ Removal of hundreds of tax deductions.
+ Reductions in the head count of any federal entity that grows their budget except for the purposes of defense.
+ A reduction in federal payments to any state or local government that uses public finances for sports venues.
* A law that makes it a felony to any host that easily allows minors to view pornography.
+ An email tax of one cent for every email sent.
- Immigration reform that speeds up the process for denial or acceptance of all categories of visas and hearings.

I agree with everything in your list, except for the email tax. That tax should only be applied to repeat spammer, and solicitation companies, not everyday folks who use email.

That list was too confusing for me. Personal property tax? Like real estate or.....?
