covet = envy, want to have for yourself.

honor = treat with respect.

IMO to covet is a bit more than to envy. It is the desire to take from another that which you envy them for having.

100% agreement on honor.

More like you would like to grab it out of her hand and make sure she didn't get any of it so you would be the only one to have it.

"Grasping the after wind" is right and you have nothing to worry about on this account. To simply admire something that another owns or to wish you had something like that is not at all what this commandment is speaking to. And if you are going to ask...then for sure not! :)

Sorry, but English dictionaries can not properly convey the meanings of the original language words. It is not the English that matters but the Hebrew in this case.

honor = treat with respect.
Close. But it is more properly understood as MANIFESTED respect. It has to be shown to be honor.

In first century Judea, it was understood to mean that you financially care for your parents when they retire. Our Lord seems to have agreed with this assessment:

Mark 7:10 kjv
For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: 11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. 12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

Point well taken, that's true and fair. Not to mention about 4 time what I wanted loaded in when I pasted it.

It is a stronger desire than that. When you can't stop thinking about it or you are angry that someone else has what you want. At the extreme, people will break the law to get it.

im confused by it

Well, 'covet' is a discontent desire, usually for something not permissible. Eve coveted the fruit that she was forbidden to eat to give an example.

And to 'honor' varies, but in this context it refers to authority institutions/figures. Give those in positions of authority and influence the proper respect and obedience, as well as to maintain their good name and reputation, as far as it is neither extreme, nor at odds with God and his written word. Rather, promote it for their own good and most of all to God's glory.
