• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Very few seek help voluntarily. If they did we wouldn't have a problem.

So these people were mentally flawed even before they started using drugs, and using drugs confirms it? I think you're on to something here; the predisposition for harmful and illegal behaviors.

The problem is, society stigmatise them, most are social outcast and are suffering in silence. To be addicted to an illicit substance is very different from nicotine addiction, the cycle of craving, seeking behaviour, withdrawal symptoms are a lot more intense compared to nicotine.

And some are more predispose to addictive behaviours, how our individual minds are wired

Society does impose shame upon them, and rightly so. They destroy what we are trying to build.

IMO that is counter productive to what we are trying to achieve, if we view them as criminals instead of victims, it would only exacerbate the problem,...just my 2 cents

I smoked for fifteen years, never stole to obtain cigarettes, and quit without help from anyone (although it took several attempts). That was 47 years ago.

Your drug of choice just happened to be legal and didn't come with the inflated prices prohibition creates. You were also under no legal threat from your use and allowed to use or abstain on your own terms. Yet you expect different from others who are not so lucky.

Tell that to bhsmte (post # 21). The point was addiction, not cost or legality.

We don't view thieves as "victims".

We can't achieve 'good apples' if we leave the bad ones in the barrel. People that use drugs lack the most fundamental concepts of right and wrong.

Re: What do we gain?

We gain self-respect. We gain a society in which everyone has reason to hope, recognizing that some day we might be that person. We have the opportunity to express compassion. They have the opportunity to experience love.

Then they should stay treatment in longer.
Who's paying for this. Last I heard Conservative Christians don't like to pay for drug addicts getting help. Or any kind of programs, that the poor people need. Also many drug addicts are in and out of treatment centers.

Red delicious and granny smith.

Red Delicious are almost always picked too green. Bought a bag in Washington State once. Hard as a rock and green as grass. Tossed them to the squirrels. Not sure I've every had a Granny Smith. (Where's the oranges?)

Under my plan the residents would contribute their labor to help run the facility. We don't like to pay. We prefer that those getting the treatment bear most of the expenses. They aren't usually handicapped where work is concerned. The idea that everyone else should turn their pockets inside out for these people is nonsense.

Why do I feel like a fool by giving them a free pass? Where's my self-respect?

Involuntary commitment and forced labor for using drugs you disapprove of. Personal responsibility and individual indeed.
