9 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 3 He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. 4 Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. 5 If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” 6 So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.
What was the good news? They were not preaching Christ's death and resurrection - he had not died yet. They were not proclaiming Jesus as the Christ for "21 Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone."
So what was the good news that was preached? Reconcilliation with God as Father? Repentence and baptism? Worship 'in spirit and in truth'?
I'm just curious - if we had a transcript of the Apostles proclaiming the good news that the kingdom of God was at hand, how do you think it would read? We know that Christ baptized in John 3
26 And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him.”
Any thoughts on this? If you were hearing the good news, and Christ had not died yet, and Christ was not proclaiming himself as Christ... what exactly were you hearing? What was the good news. Sum it up.
