  1. Welcome to Christian Forums, a forum to discuss Christianity in a friendly surrounding.

Your voice is missing! You will need to register to be able to join in fellowship with Christians all over the world.

We hope to see you as a part of our community soon and God Bless!

  2. The forums in the Christian Congregations category are now open only to Christian members. Please review our current Faith Groups list for information on which faith groups are considered to be Christian faiths. Christian members please remember to read the Statement of Purpose threads for each forum within Christian Congregations before posting in the forum.
  3. Please note there is a new rule regarding the posting of videos. It reads, "Post a summary of the videos you post . An exception can be made for music videos.". Unless you are simply sharing music, please post a summary, or the gist, of the video you wish to share.
  4. There have been some changes in the Life Stages section involving the following forums: Roaring 20s, Terrific Thirties, Fabulous Forties, and Golden Eagles. They are changed to Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Golden Eagles will have a slight change.
  5. CF Staff, Angels and Ambassadors; ask that you join us in praying for the world in this difficult time, asking our Holy Father to stop the spread of the virus, and for healing of all affected.
  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.
  7. There has been an addition to the announcement regarding unacceptable nick names. The phrase "Let's go Brandon" actually stands for a profanity and will be seen as a violation of the profanity rule in the future.

What did Jesus mean by this? (John 3)

With this series of verses is Jesus saying he will condemn those who do not believe in him or saying that he has come to save those who will believe in him and those who do not believe do not have access to this salvation by logical consequence? It might seem a slight difference or that I'm splitting hairs, but it's the difference between pointing a gun at someone and saying "love me or I'll shoot you" and someone helping you out of a burning building.

We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today?

I'd interpret it in a way that doesn't make it become prone to being seen as a citation for the "Extortion Fallacy." ;)

    Be Blessed!

    This is more the intent.

Instead of pointing a gun at someone and saying "love me or I'll shoot you," He is saying,
"Follow Me (out of this burning building) and you will be Saved."
"If you stay here, you will be consumed (as you currently are)."

Not everybody who hears this warning takes it seriously, unfortunately.

One reason I can't practice any religion-and at one point in my life could barely hold a conversation-was because I interpret things in the most possible negative light. I once tried to practice Buddhism, became even more stressed trying to meditate because my brain convinced me I was doing it wrong. The less said about my experiments with Wicca the better. I've been trying to develop a more positive interpretation of life and others.

You have built a house on a hill of gold....more gold than you can spend in your lifetime....yet you are struggling to make ends meet and struggling to keep the house you built.

Your Father tells you that you are rich and you only have to believe it and do what he says. If you believe, you will discover that you are rich and will be able to keep your house forever...with everything else added as well... If you choose not to believe, you will remain in your poor condemned state and will eventually be removed from your house.

He wants to save you from your predicament and implores you to believe in him so that you can be.

If you love me, do my commandments.....and be saved out of all your poverty.

I would think this is more akin to helping out of the build, as you put it.

Hey, that's ok. Whether some folks admit it or not, we all sense complications with interpreting the things we find in ancient, foreign religions, whether those ideas come from the Bible or the Dhammapada.

So, take it from me, you're in good company!

The scripture says that God has made Jesus both Lord and Christ.
He says to be saved you need only call on His name.

    Acts 2:36 KJV
    36. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

It would be silly not to take advantage of the offer while you can.
It is also silly to frame the offer of a free gift as some sort of terrible ultimatum.

    Romans 10:13 KJV
    13. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Simply a matter of choice between the Kingdom and the kingdoms of man. Most, including Christians, favour the latter.

What is the negative light about Christianity? If you know you can change it. Do a mental exercise and think positively about it @CuriousPagan . You are only limited by your imagination.

You can take those scriptures literally or a face value. Don’t read into them, don’t make them confusing. Just believe.

The problem is I have a condition called obsessive anxiety that influences how I perceive things. I am trying to work through it and have gotten better.

Does it impact thoughts and make them confusing? It’s not incredible that you balk at the truth and swallow a camel.

Love can not be forced .... and you see that. That is why God presents love (putting others before self) as a choice.

The great principles of God’s law are embodied in the Ten Commandments and exemplified in the life of Christ. They express God’s love, will, and purposes concerning human conduct and relationships and are binding upon all people in every age.

These precepts are the basis of God’s covenant with His people and the standard in God’s judgment. Through the agency of the Holy Spirit they point out sin and awaken a sense of need for a Saviour. Salvation is all of grace and not of works, and its fruit is obedience to the Commandments.

This obedience develops Christian character and results in a sense of well-being. It is evidence of our love for the Lord and our concern for our fellow human beings. The obedience of faith demonstrates the power of Christ to transform lives, and therefore strengthens Christian witness. (Exod. 20:1-17; Deut. 28:1-14; Ps. 19:7-14; 40:7, 8; Matt. 5:17-20; 22:36-40; John 14:15; 15:7-10; Rom. 8:3, 4; Eph. 2:8-10; Heb. 8:8-10; 1 John 2:3; 5:3; Rev. 12:17; 14:12.)

Yes ... God has laws .... and they are good laws when kept perfectly (only Jesus did) .... they produce love (putting others before self) ... they are to be kept out of our love for Him and love towards our fellow mankind, and for no other reasons ... and when one accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior .... He sends them the Holy Spirit to help them overcome sin (transgression of the Law)

God IS love. His law is good.

    Romans 13:10
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love (others before self) is the fulfilling of the law.

The law is in everyone's heart (believers or not) ... and has been since creation of mankind and will continue to be until He returns.

Some teach the law was done away with .... no .... else God can not judge rightly.

He’s saying both. God chose to use both incentives to draw people to Him, both His love and His wrath.

“Anyone who does not remain in Me is cast away to wither and cast into the fire to be burned.” John 15:6

Both the invitation and ultimatum are given in the scriptures.

Yes choose your allegiance, the temporary one with immediate rewards or the lasting one most don't have the patience for.
Reminds me of an insurance company that would be dishing out my pension. They wanted me to take more now and less in a few years. He grew furious when I refused to succumb to greed that would benefit them in the long run and took the alternate slow but steady route. I am now ahead of their game, but hey it was my money they hoped to keep for themselves. So it is with the world vs the kingdom.

Being a Christian is not about choosing the most appealing religion, it's about choosing Jesus as your saviour. Other religions are not offering a Saviour. Do you want to be saved? Receiving salvation through Jesus is simple, but it's not for those who are half hearted about it and not prepared to commit their lives to Jesus.

He is offering us the opportunity to be the bride of Christ! I don't know about you, but I can't think of anything that tops that. If that's not the best offer of all eternity, I'd like to know what is. We have a big problem, we were born sinful and the penalty for sin is dealth and suffering for all eternty in hell. Recieving Jesus as your saviour, sure beats the alternative and it a free gift. What's wrong with that?

Being a bride requires a lot of works. I prefer to be the invited guest to the wedding feast of Jesus and His Kingdom.

Nothing but I hope those who do are ready to be admonished by the world made in our own image that we are rejecting as a result.
