I'm waiting for a ruling on whether or not I'm allowed to post within the For Christians Only sections of the forum.

I would describe myself as being on the very outside edge of Christianity (with sceptical doubts about supernatural claims), but I still see value in the Christian story and traditions.

Am I welcome here?

I strenuously struggle With the idea that belonging in Christian community Is dependant on believing the right things.

If you're asking about posting on this board, I think as long as you have some form of Christian in your profile you're good.

But just so you know, Christianity is a defined set of beliefs and practices. The Creed begins, "We believe..."

The Biblical definition would be a person who first has believed in Jesus for God's free gift of Eternal Life and becomes a permanent born again child of God. Then this born again child of God begins to in their life. Following Jesus, trying their best to pattern their life after the way Jesus lived His life.

As for what this forum defines Christian as i do not know

For CF's purposes, being a Christian is defined as agreeing with the Nicene Creed.

As far as Christian communities in real life, there's belonging and belonging. Most churches are very happy to have you attend, be involved, participate, and so forth; but to be considered a Christian, there's usually some commitment to make, even if it's fairly minimal.

But at least as far as I'm concerned, you're welcome here. :)

When you receive His Holy Spirit because you love Him more than anyone or anything including yourself, then you can call yourself a Christian. Repent and believe, then you will receive!
Blessings

Everybody is welcome here ... there are rules on each of the forums. A Christian is a follower of Christ's teachings that are found in His written word. Regarding where you can post is dependent on your profile

As far as believing the "right things" .... there are many interpretations of scripture and one must compare them (no matter where they come from) with His written word to see if they are true or not ... that takes some dedicated searching (study) and time in prayer. Really it's a life long journey ... but is a journey well worth taking.

The supernatural goes outside of the material and often many find it difficult to do that. However ... consider our minds (thinking) .... this is not material ... yes the brain is physical but our thoughts are not physical .... this is the supernatural part of us. Science now understands the basic molecular basis of life but doesn't yet understand the basis of consciousness (because it is not material-supernatural)

The teachings of Jesus is letting us know that we have flawed thinking and our thinking needs to be changed and the Bible contains the info we need to help for that to occur ... that is ... having the mind of Christ.

What is being Christian?

1 Corinthians 2:16

“For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”

May the Lord lead you to the truth through your deligent study. Amen.

This is actually the major topic of the book of Romans. Paul was part of a dispute over what was needed to be Christian. His answer is faith. He didn't require specific theological beliefs. Nor do I think it's true to Paul's purpose to say "well you don't really have faith unless you believe my favorite thing."

Not all Christian traditions think that is a crucial marker of being a Christian, especially in contemporary churches that one might describe as liberal or progressive, there's often a wide latitude in terms of actual beliefs. Belonging often precedes believing in formation of religious identity.
