Hi all,

Do any of you ever have snake dreams? Last night, I dreamt that I was in a room, which I believe was supposed to be my bedroom, although it looks nothing like my room because in my dream we had moved and were renovating a house. I was dumping out a bucket of dirt (actually, I think I was cleaning a litter box for cats and using a bucket to do it) and I was pouring it into a couple of big plastic bins. What came out was a bunch of dirt and 2 snakes. Once I realized the snakes were there, I quickly put the lid on one container and on the other, I zipped some sort of fabric bag around, kind of like those casserole pans that have thermal zipped fabric pouches around it. I did this so that the snakes would suffocate and die because I hate snakes, but I did not want to be the one to step on them or kill them. I did not have the stomach for that, so I just thought I'd wait around for them to die and then have my husband get rid of them after that.

I do feel like the Lord is rooting out some strongholds in my life. Could these be the snakes?

Anyone have any thoughts here?

Thanks so much!

Pam

Pam,

As you know from the very beginning of creation the snake was a figure of Satan. It can also represent evil spirits or false teachers. Jesus called the Pharisees "snakes" and a "brood of vipers." So, it could symbolize false teaching that you have accepted. Pray for discernment so that you will know what is true and what is false.

What concerned me about your dream is that you wanted to zip them up in a bag and hoped they died of suffocation on their own but you didn't have the heart to kill them and hoped your husband (Jesus?) would do it for you. I believe that you need to be willing to kill whatever God is wanting rooted out of your life if you are to ever be free. You can't hide them and you can't cover them up (zip them up) hoping they will die on their own. It doesn't usually work that way. You need to allow the sword of the Spirit to dig deep down in your heart and to uproot these strongholds and you need to be willing to kill them or they will never die.

Pam,

I'm speaking from experience here. I've had strongholds of Satan in my life previously. I used to try to fight off the enemy like and abused child fights off an abuser by hovering in a corner with my arms crossed in front of me hoping I would not get another beating.

Then, I learned one day that Jesus already won the battle for me. All I have to do is to take the instruments of victory in warfare that he has already given to me and use them. I had to put on the shield of faith and use the sword of the Spirit against Satan. I had to fight him head on with the Word of God and the belt of truth and the shield of faith and the helmet of Salvation and he left. I would never, ever go back!!!! God has set me free and I am free indeed!! Praise God!!

If you ever want to talk about it privately, feel free to PM me and we can talk. I hurt in the depths of my soul for those who are bound by the strongholds of Satan and I pray they will know that Jesus came to set them free!! And, he's already conquered Satan. We just have to use the tools he gives us and he does the rest.

Although I have some ideas about the dream symbols, I’m not sure if I really understand what the dream is telling the dreamer.

I almost never see a snake dream as being negative. On the contrary, snake dreams are often very positive and are typically seen in the dream of spiritual people. Snakes are often symbols of wisdom – spiritual wisdom.

They could symbolize a positive change that is taking place within the dreamer. Jung called the snake a symbol of transcendence. (There are other symbols of transcendence, but the snake is the most common.) That is, the snake would symbolize the change that is going on within the dreamer. The dreamer transcends who she is – she goes beyond who she is. In the Jungian approach, the snake would symbolize the efforts of the dreamer to reach her goal. [http://www.designoffashions.org/Unconscious/part_2_ancient_myths-B.htm ]

BTW – sometimes the color of the snake can be important. Green, blue, pink and white are almost always positive (which does not necessarily mean that other colors are negative). And, being bitten by a dream snake is usually a good sign.

Rather than see the dirt as being dirty, we could, instead, see it as soil -- which is fertile. Thus, the soil could be seen as a source of growth.

Hope this helps.

Yep snakes are never a good thign they represent the enemy and every negative thing and evil. The fact that you did not want to kill them is because you probably need a little more confidence in who you are in CHrist and the power he has given you to tread on snakes and scorpians...and you need to pick up your sword (the word of God) and just slice and chop up any negativity that may be coming at you in your life with the Word of God no matter what it may be use the WORD!!!!...I had a good dream about snakes one time where my house was loaded with them although i was afraid i picked up a sword in this dream and i just CHOPPED THEM ALLL UPP AND IN THE DREAM I WAS SAYING "IN THE NAME OF JESUS I CHOP YOU, I KILL YOU" I got rid of them ALL in the name of Jesus. The other time i had a dream that a large python was on my neck resting like a scarf at the point in time i was under the false teaching of a so called prophet/minister woman of God...she had a jezebel spirit and she used divination. THe python had symbolized her and how the enemy was quenching my thirst for God, because in the dream the snake was heavy and i cud feel it even though it felt good around my neck i cudnt keep it there long because it would have burdened me and suffocated me to death. Pretty much the same in the spiritual realm.. But God has since released me from that and I IS FREEEE!!! in Jesus' name!!!!!!!!!

I am going to have to say i don't agree with your view of snakes...they represent carnal wisdom, sensual wisdom. Base all interpretations as to how they have been interpreted in the Bible...anything extra-biblical is not necessary and demonic. Snakes throughout the entire Bible represent the enemy never were they were seen as good creatures. To be bitten by a snake in a dream is bad thing if you dont kill it in the dream because it means that the emeny has taken a bite out of you and you cannot defend yourself. Snakes are just bad!-in their spiritual interpretation. In real life-they have their place and worht in the animal kingdom.

Further you are quoting Jung and this new age whatever...Boo, you needs to quote Jesus!

As you can tell, I don’t agree with you. I do agree that snakes can symbolize evil people or have some other negative interpretation. However, I also believe that the snake can be a very positive dream image.

If we use Jesus (or, more generally, the Bible) as our only source for dream interpretation, we naturally run into problems when see things in our dreams that are not mentioned in the Bible. For example, if I dream that I am driving a truck, does that mean that the dream has no meaning or cannot be interpreted? If the Bible is the source of our dream interpretation, then the answer is, “Yes.” The dream would not be interpreted. Dream trucks are extra-Biblical -- are they demonic?

If the Bible is the source of dream interpretations, does that mean that dreams could not be interpreted before the Bible? Joseph interpreted dreams for the pharaoh before we had the Bible. Does that mean that his interpretations were worthless?

I had a dream recently that a young Christian leader I know got a black snake as a pet. She had faith the the snake would not harm her and it didn't, but it attacked young children who came to visit her.

When I asked the Lord for the interpretation, the verse in Prov. immediately came to mind about strong drink biting like a viper. It then seemed quite clear to me that although she has no problem handling alcohol some of the young Christians around her might be hurt by it if she keeps it around or brings it out to play with in their company.

In your dream you were cleaning out some hidden places. "Renovating" or making changes is significant. The upheaval caused you to expose things you didn't want to see. They were in dirt like dirty secrets. Rooting out strongholds and lies that Satan has told you and you have believed makes sense. Are the casserole thermal covers something you would use to brings the contents to someone else? Perhaps you need to be careful about passing the problem on to someone else hoping it will just go away. On the other hand maybe you need the help of someone else (husband -someone who cares about you? someone in authority? someone who is not afaid? someone who takes out the garbage and stomps on spiders and snakes as part of their job description? -or someone who is easy to blame?) to help you destroy these strongholds because you "do not have the stomach for that" and feel like you are not strong enough yet to do it by yourself.
