We got up and had a big breakfast with fresh pineapple juice. We are having Easter dinner later this evening.
Just doing the typical stuff for Easter today. My mom and I are going to make a cake today and we'll have Easter dinner later.

4 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, 7 grandkids, a bazillion plastic eggs with candy and money inside, spiral baked ham etc.......plus......we're tying in two birthdays. So, I'm tired just having typed that. Jesus rising from the dead sure does create a lot of work for us every year. Sheeesh.

This is actually our first Easter at home. Every other year we've gone to my wife's parents. But they retired and moved to Florida.

So we did all the things we normally would have done with the larger family. Holy week masses, basket blessing yesterday, mass and meal today.

But we're having a quiet day at home as a family.

Earlier in the week the sewer backed up into the basement so we were at a hotel for a while, then there has been dealing with the aftermath and repair of that.

But we were back home by Friday to make our Easter bread and food for the basket. And though we lost some things in the backup ... Everybody is good.

So we are just having a quiet prayerful and fun day at home.

Living in the college town we decided a long time ago we would rent and not own. Property values are too expensive.

So none of the, it looks like, $5,000 in repairs are going to us. Our landlord group is great and they paid for the hotel. And we have renters insurance for replacing bookcases and such. Thank God I was doing some cleaning the week before and had all the books taken off the bottom shelves. It was a finished basement with a guest room. So we lost some furniture.

The only personal possession that was a big loss was the 200 year old Family Bible.

But nothing is permanent and everybody is well.

That's great about having such a great landlord! The loss of the 200 year old Family Bible though... Ugh! :(

Doubled up, did some Easter and birthday stuff. My mom made me a cake, my sister and brother-in-law came over. Dad roasted a ham with some potatoes and had that with some fruit salad and deviled eggs. My sister got me Ben Shapiro's new book The Right Side of History, which is great so far.

Caught the ball game and then went to bed around 4pm, pretty chill day.
