  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Every year!!! You must have every character name and every location memorized. I listen to the audio books of Lord of the Rings read by Phil Dragash, a dashingly handsome man. It's a production with music and sound effects. I can not take the original reader & his slow ponderous pace through such a long trilogy. I used to go though a book in less than a week that way playing them on my mp3 player as I worked outdoors all day, rode the bus & sat in eateries. Love those books but I get restless for new adventure when I try to read (or listen to) them again.

I'm reading Shaman's Crossing which in it is an interesting story that keeps me reading by giving me the feeling that just around the corner waits the really good part. It keeps leading up to something but now I'm more than half way through, I'm not sure if this is not all there is. Robin Hobb is a female who loves to write in depth about the feelings of the lead character. I mean you get 3 lines of conversation and three pages breaking down each possible interpretation, then every possible outcome, and how the lead character, so far always a male, feels about each one. Her books are like the Lord of the Rings written as a purely emotional journey. The action is few & far between. You know those movie trailers that promise so much and then you watch the movie and find you were completely mislead. Well, I'm allowing her to mislead me again. She makes me long to find out what happens to the characters that she gives so much depth to that you love them. She gives them so much promise, power to speak to animals (Farseer Trilogy) and unite with them with which they do nothing noteworthy.

I loved linear algebra! I actually have a much easier time as it's like writing out a sentence.

Now, that I've gotten used to Hobb, I'm reading Forest Mage from the Soldier Son trilogy. In the end the hero finally does what he could've done from the beginning of the story but was trying to be normal through the whole story. So not much action but a lot character building and emotional journeys. She can make really interesting odd characters that are supremely funny and will make you laugh. I love to laugh whiles reading.
There was the 'Fool' in the Farseer Trilogy and Epiny in Soldiers' Son trilogy.

I would not recommend Rain Wild Chronicles, it seemed she rushed out those books and tried to make it more of a titillating adult story (had to skip over paragraphs and pages) by filling it with gay men, adultery and youngsters committing fornication. It did not have much humor and the major characters were female. There are pages of disparaging marks on goodreads and amazon about them, so sin does not make a story good.

Ugh, I find it extremely frustrating lol.
It may have something to do with this textbook; it uses a LOT of symbols and does little to explain what they really mean. It's really hard to follow along with.
Combine that with a subpar professor and you get a semester full of headaches



Just to stay on topic: currently reading - The Two Towers by JRR Tolkien (still)
