What did Paul tell the Philippian jailor when he asked Paul "What must I do to be saved"? Did he tell him to "go through the school master (which is the OT law, BTW) first"?

Acts 16:27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

Acts 16:28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

Acts 16:29Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

Acts 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

Acts 16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

The jailor was ready to commit suicide...he asked Paul and Silas what he needed to do to be saved. Paul and Silas answered and then preached the word of the Lord to him and his household. They believed the word of the Lord which Paul and Silas preached, they were baptized, and rejoiced "believing in God with all his house."

My eternal salvation is based on my trusting Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross of Calvary for my sin. Jesus Christ didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Matthew 9:11-13)

Salvation As Taught in the Bible

John 6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

When were the audience in these cases not educated in OT? when they were told this.. it does not detract from what they already knew.. it enhances it

What did Paul tell the Gentile Church? He said if they abstain from fornication and meat offered to idols they will do well well. We don't need to worry about meat offered to idols in america but we do need to abstain from fornication which includes adultery because marriage is the answer to abstaining from fornication. Surely God does not tolerate other Gods or using His name in vein. And love does no ill will to its neighbor and for this reason Paul says we dont murder, steal, covet, commit adultery, or bear false witness. But then we have the greatest commandment Which is love God with all your heart. According to Paul Gods will is to abstain from fornication and being dishonest. We fail to obey Gods greatest commandment when we ignore His will.

Hey I agree that love does no ill will but it isn't a reason to follow the law. That is certianly a good reason to forsake Jesus and follow the law. In doing so one makes Christ of no effect thus turning ones back on salvation also Gal 5:4.

One should never forsake Christ and follow God's Law without Him.. That would be very foolish indeed.. that is like walking down the road in the dark.. You have a road in which you need to walk on, but do not go without being able to see it clearly.. and He is the light.

Jesus said to FOLLOW ME...Jesus doesn't lead us back into the bondage of the OT law which we cannot keep.

Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Matthew 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

The rule of life for the Christian is not the Ten Commandments, but the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. We are to put on Christ, not the Ten Commandments.

Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The law im talking about is the law of Christ given by Him and His apostles and obeying it is not forsaking the Lord.

So what happened to the perfect law of liberty anyway?

and why has a page about assurance of salvation come to a discussion of law?

i am very concerned for some people .. very very concerned .. Paul said what he said in the Galatians letter about preaching another gospel ..

Tell ya what....you keep those last 6 commandments according to how you believe they must be kept (and keep them PERFECTLY and I will remain under the "law of liberty in Christ Jesus".

Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Galatians 3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

Are you here? Still under the "curse" of the OT law, which condemns the sinner?

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Or are you here? I am here, redeemed from the curse of the law, praise God!
