^_^ I wasn't aware we argued very often. I can only name once, really. But seriously, I just love the Church, and sometimes I come off a bit abrasively. Apologies.

You sure do sound sure! :D

    Hi Stryder!
Is this an assurance of salvation then? Or are you "hoping" you'll "make it"?

So Jesus din't need to die for William then? Or did you mean something esle?

Amen. So you're saying that it's all up to God and so you can be sure?

And... is that assurance? Or are you "hoping to make it" too?

    Thanks for the answers!

To say I am not a fan of his is an understatement but I will check this out:

Is this a Rob bell promo? lol..
Awesome, and I am determined as well. Do you believe then that you're "in like flynn" or are you hoping for the best?

He's caused a lot of trouble for a lot of parents. He targets the
late teen to mid 20 crowd from what I've seen, promising them a "better
way" of doing church. Can't say it's not our own fault either. Had we been
doing a way better job of being the Church to the world, people like him
wouldn't be able to sneak up on us.

What he teaches about Scripture was the final straw for me.
    Are you saved Simon?
    :holy:

I am as determined of my own salvation as I am determined of anyone else's.

So, I can say that I trust what I understand of the Bible, as I understand the Bible, but I also admit that I don't entirely understand the Bible (and Christianity in all of its factions doesn't exactly provide a definitive explanation), so I possibly missed something pretty important.

That being said, I believe I'm in, and I'm hoping for the best.

Oh you bet I am sure. For it is not what I have done or will do but what He has done for me. Oh praise His name..

In practice, if one believes he/she is "in like Flynn", do you see how this could potentially lead to complacency in one's Christian walk?

Brother Ortho!! How good of you to stop by and inquire of my thoughts :p
I believe that God wanted a fam, and so He created man in His image.
that man fell and so was in need of a savior.
I believe that God Himself came to save us .. REDEEMED us from the
curse that the blessing of Abraham might come upon us, that we might
have the Holy Spirit. !! (Sorry you asked yet? lol)
So while I 'think' that this includes restoring us to pre fall state and giving
us everything we need for life and godliness..
So imo, salvation includes .. everything God wants for us.
One thing I DO know is that He desires ABOVE all else, that we "prosper"
(in everything we do ) and walk in health, even as our soul prospers.
    (Interesting passage there)
We're "born" into the kingdom and imo, God wont let anything snatch us away.
His desire is that ALL men be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth..
He REALLY wants us all... Has done EVERYThing to make that thing happen,
right up to the point of 'stooping' to our level, to sacrificing His Son that
He loved, going to the cross to endure the agony of all sin for all time!
ABBA!!! Could He love us any more than that?
Yeah,,, it's gotta be at least NIGH unto impossible to get away.
He wont drop me and it'd take an act of God to pry me loose.

    What about you!! lol

    Amen!
(We all miss plenty i bet. How deep is our God?)

    :clap::bow:

Totally! That is exactly the aspect of the Christian faith that I care most about.

If my perspective on salvation was just about whether we are in or out, then I would just ride the wave in.

So, it has to be about something else, too...

When the rich man asked Jesus, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”Jesus responded, "...If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” - Matthew 19:16-17

I don't know much about causation in this case, but Jesus definitely points at correlation, and so I'm determined to uphold any part of that correlation that is under my control, in confidence that Christ will uphold the parts that are under His.

    We better bear fruit !
I hate pruning too though lol.

I'm not so much concerned about what truth might lead to.
If we're "in like flynn" and that leads to foolishness that's our bad.
If We're NOT in like flynn and terrified we need to "be good enough"
to "get in" we might live in terror and give up..
There's consequences to everything but if it's truth it's truth.

I can't help what some fool might do. I can only control what this
    one fool does.

I don't see that as a result of believing you're saved.. Just the opposite in fact.
That God would consider me His friend is imo a source of amazement. I
can hardly think of Him without being overwhelmed with gladness and
thankfulness and a feeling of deep humility at my unworthiness...

I know that most of my circle of friends feels that way too...

I think complacency leads to being luke warm. We need to keep that fire burning and trying to be like Jesus otherwise the fire dwindles and luke warm can set in...

Thanks for the response, sis! Really, i'm not being ornery at all... ;)

As for me, I look at salvation as something that is only fully obtained in the afterlife. I see it as a end result of a long journey towards Christ which starts in this life and continues on in the next. Maybe the journey never stops, I'd like to think that it wouldn't. I like to use the analogy of Peter walking out of the boat onto the water towards Jesus. God's grace allows us to walk on water, and God lifts us up when we fall (lose sight of him) and ask for help. God's grace is required for salvation; we can willingly refuse God's grace if we so choose, but we will never be able to get away from it.

yes, that is what I am referring to...I think it is a trap that all of us can fall into.

But, what I'm trying to get my mind around is this; if justification is completely seperate from sanctification(justification meaning that you are "saved") then why bother with the sanctification process if you're "good to go"? To me, this seems a dangerous mentality which could easily lead to this state you refer to.
